Since I can't find a more complete way to diagnose the radio and really don't want to spend money without knowing the problem I was hoping someone was willing to try parts out for me.

I will take care of all shipping charges and even throw in some beer money. I will ship controller and radio all you need to do it connect them respectively and see if they play in your system.

Who's willing to help me out. Maybe someone who has to go in there anyway for preventive care.

Thanks for any replies.

Did you check the ground connection? If I recall you said the po said it just quit working will out riding. Maybe a loose or dirty ground or broken wire? Did you check all the connections for corrosion?

All connections were free of corrosion but I sprayed cleaner anyway. Ground is infinite from ground bolt on radio to anywhere on the frame.

With all connection secure I checked the remote wire connection. One pin had low voltage coming through which should be all that's needed to power the remote. This also tells me that power is reaching the radio..

Still dead no power to controller, no noise in speakers.

Your ground reading from radio to frame should read zero or very near zero, same as with two leads touching each other. Infinite reading indicates an open connection to ground, broken wire.

Attach a clip lead from radio to ground, or a piece of wire and check radio.

It just struck me. Some time back somebody was having radio issue and found something bad under the pillon seat. Back on the way to the CB parts of the radio stuff. Before you ship stuff off I would hate to see someone check it out and it be OK and your in the same boat.

In the manual I have it shows a ground lead attached to the radio casing, pg 8-54. You did say you have nothing on the display right? no power at all? If that's the case, then it's not the mute. All though I don't think it has a mute mode. Don't have my bike right now to check it out, it's in the shop. The CB is under the trunk. Worth checking the wires under the seats.

No mute on the 2nd gen. It does have the volume increase thing as you accelerate it get louder to a point. But the no display. Do you recall what the connector for the handlebar control looks like? Maybe a small version of the connection for the helmet? If so I may have something to try to take that out of the picture. Just for grins try with the key in accessory instead of on. I guess a good wiring diagram guy is going to have to get into the schematics to see where and how much voltage there is supposed to be. I'll see if maybe I can figure something out, but wiring is not a strong point.

two fuzes for radio, one on the left side by main fuze marked 10A backup ( that one will give you a dead controller) other is right side in lowers.

Jose,

I'm getting ready to open mine up to change out the control head. If you haven't solved the issue yet, I would be willing to test your radio parts while I have mine open.

Thanks guys. I don't have a a garage so I wont be able to pull the parts till Saturday again. I wanted to pull the parts and do some more diagnosing yesterday but my birthday girl asked to go for a ride.

She really twisted my arm and then I had spring dog poop cleanup. ( FUN FUN FUN)

Temp dropped down again to 40 and blustery winds today.
