Hey guy's most know on this site I have been working on my 83 Venture Royale. I pulled the front head and replaced the gasket and still having the same problems. It is steam comming out of the center vent tube and it's still smoking bad.. I don't seem to be loosing any water but it may be leaking a little. I see the water line turns runs into the block right by the oil feed under a little plate of some kind. Could this part be bad ?? The engine runs great don't miss but is still smoking out the right side. It is driving me crazy. Any help or opinion would be greatly appreciated. I am getting really tire of working on this thing to be getting no where.

The "twinky" is on the crankcase between the "V" formed by the front and rear cylinders. In this twinky, runs coolant, engine oil and crankcase ventilation. There are multiple chambers within the twinky. These chambers are separated by O-ring style rubber gasket.

Usually a failure of the gasket results in coolant in the motor oil, though.

Here are some pics of the "twinky" (breather).

Are you sure what you are seeing is steam and not burning oil? Hold a paper coffee filter over the smoking pipe and let it collect some residue and see if it smell/tastes like oil or anti freeze.

Prarriehammer could be correct , but I don't think that's it. As he said you'd have coolant in the oil But you say it's smoking so that say's what ever it is is being burnt. Is your motor oil milky? Did you have the head checked for cracks?

Thanks for the replys. I did get the head checked and they found no leaks. The vapor comming out of the vent is water. The exhaust seems to be a mixture of water and oils and fuel. The bad thing is the darn bike runs great and except for the smoke comming from the pipe and the evac it would be perfect. Heck I rode it around the 1 mile block at least 10 to 15 times today. The oil that came out was a lighter sade of oil so it may be getting a little water in the oil..

Next step would be to pressurize the cooling system and see if you can force water into the suspect cylinder and watch for a pressure drop, you can rent a bore scope at an auto parts store to see inside the cylinder. Did you check the head and cylinder mating surfaces for flatness before reassembling?

There is the distinct possibility that the oil and water that you are noting in the exhaust is residual fluids from the original head gasket defect. The lowest point in the exhaust system is the collector. It can retain a significant volume of liquid and a lengthy high speed run would be required to burn off and evacuate all the fluid that may have accumulated in the collector.

Thanks guy's I agree with residual oil and crap in the exhaust. I am going to pull the twenkie "sp" tomorrow and check the gasket. I sure hope I can find the problem soon . I really like the bike but dang ...

if it is just steam and the plugs are looking good i wouldn't worry about it. when my bike is cold and the temps outside aren't so warm ive got a huge cloud of steam behind my bike till it warms up and has done that since i got it ride it around a little while and let it heat up and see if the steam persists even after the bike is warmed up good

Thanks for the replys again. It's smoking out the exhaust pretty bad. Looks like a mixture of water and oil.. Thr evac is just water. I am going to pull the twinkie today and see if it's been leaking.. I may try some mechanic in a can " block seal " when I put it back together this time.

I'd seafoam the Dog Doo out of it before I did anything more. I mean in the Gas And some Deep Creep sprayed direct And let it sit overnight. Then Id get on it and ride it like I stole it. For a few miles BOTH pipes will smoke! Whooooooooo! But it just may clean something that needs cleaned, you can imagine a tiny particle of trash might be sitting somewhere it should not be. Maybe some carbon or gum.

I'd use the Fuel additive, the Deep creep and the Auto Marine Motor treatment. (And I have on a 1700 that was totally clogged with Carbon due to leaking Intake)

First do the fuel. Can't add too much! LOL

Then Do the motor treatment, Ride it!

Then when ya bring it back, Hose down the intakes while running with some RPM on it Might take two people but get a lot in there and basically drown it out with the deep Creep. Let it sit overnight.

Then ride it like you stole it again. If your lucky when it stops smoking both pipes will be clear. At that point change the oil and. Be happy.

If not, It will be clean when you take it apart! :clap2::clap2:

Thanks for all the advice , I am pricing another engine on ebay and if I can get it cheap enough I will just change the whole darn thing.. I really like the way the bike sits and rides. At least if I get another engine I will have a ton of spare parts..
