Is there an alternate part number for the locking nut on the rear axle for a 2nd Gen??

90185-18167-00 Nut, Self locking shows obsolete in the parts fiches at several sources I have checked.

McMaster doesn't carry one this size that I could find either.

Seems like a needed replacement part that should be available somewhere. The nylon locking ring is deteriorated on one I have.

I think I found it on Partshark.com.

They list 90185-18009-00 as a replacement for 90185-18167-00.

Boats.net didn't show the replacement #.

By 2013 they were listing it as 90185-18009-00. At some point (after 2008) they changed it.

Be interesting to see if they went to a metal lock instead of the nylon that wore out....

I just ordered some from Fastenal. I got extras, so I will put some for sale in my member vendor classified listing when I get them.

I got all steel and also some nylon insert style.

Thanks, Jeff.

Just out of curiosity.

Is there room to drill the axle and use a castle nut and cotter pin like the 1st gens?

Not with VMax final drive on it. I don't know if a stock final is any better. I would rather have it pinned, but axle isn't long enough.

For the future, always try PartShark (or the official site, star-motorcycles.com) for superseded part numbers. Partzilla tends to know about both versions but pretends it doesn't know about the link between them when you search the site. When you order, however, they will show the old part was replaced with the new one.
