dingy Posted March 12, 2014 #1 Posted March 12, 2014 Is there an alternate part number for the locking nut on the rear axle for a 2nd Gen?? 90185-18167-00 Nut, Self locking shows obsolete in the parts fiches at several sources I have checked. McMaster doesn't carry one this size that I could find either. Seems like a needed replacement part that should be available somewhere. The nylon locking ring is deteriorated on one I have. Gary
dingy Posted March 12, 2014 Author #2 Posted March 12, 2014 I think I found it on Partshark.com. They list 90185-18009-00 as a replacement for 90185-18167-00. Boats.net didn't show the replacement #. Gary
M61A1MECH Posted March 12, 2014 #3 Posted March 12, 2014 Gary I found this number 90185-18009-00 as an alternate at this web site http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f91f8700209bc794e84/rear-wheel
MiCarl Posted March 12, 2014 #5 Posted March 12, 2014 By 2013 they were listing it as 90185-18009-00. At some point (after 2008) they changed it. Be interesting to see if they went to a metal lock instead of the nylon that wore out....

Flyinfool Posted March 13, 2014 #8 Posted March 13, 2014 Did you try Fastenal? Or Nutty or Agri Supply
Kirby Posted March 13, 2014 #9 Posted March 13, 2014 Did you try Fastenal? Or Nutty or Agri Supply Jeff you nailed it at Fastenal. Way to go!!!! Dingy check out Jeff's link above.
Flyinfool Posted March 13, 2014 #10 Posted March 13, 2014 I get a lot of weird fasteners from Fastenal.
dingy Posted March 13, 2014 Author #11 Posted March 13, 2014 I just ordered some from Fastenal. I got extras, so I will put some for sale in my member vendor classified listing when I get them. I got all steel and also some nylon insert style. Thanks, Jeff. Gary
Flyinfool Posted March 13, 2014 #12 Posted March 13, 2014 Just out of curiosity. Is there room to drill the axle and use a castle nut and cotter pin like the 1st gens?
dingy Posted March 13, 2014 Author #13 Posted March 13, 2014 Just out of curiosity. Is there room to drill the axle and use a castle nut and cotter pin like the 1st gens? Not with VMax final drive on it. I don't know if a stock final is any better. I would rather have it pinned, but axle isn't long enough. Gary
djh3 Posted March 13, 2014 #14 Posted March 13, 2014 I think I would go with the 3rd one down on the Fastenall listing. Same nut but is lock nut not nyloc
csdexter Posted March 13, 2014 #15 Posted March 13, 2014 For the future, always try PartShark (or the official site, star-motorcycles.com) for superseded part numbers. Partzilla tends to know about both versions but pretends it doesn't know about the link between them when you search the site. When you order, however, they will show the old part was replaced with the new one.
