ReinyRooster Posted March 10, 2014 #1 Posted March 10, 2014 Does anyone have any experience with the various gear indicators available for the 2nd gen? Referring more towards the less expensive ones....see them ranging from about $16.00 to almost $200.00. How/where did you mount them? How difficult are they to wire? Thanks
Dano Posted March 10, 2014 #2 Posted March 10, 2014 I'm kinda interested in that too, loved all the gizmo readouts on the 1st gen....
bongobobny Posted March 10, 2014 #3 Posted March 10, 2014 Maybe check with Freebird, he did some research and was going to do it to his 2nd gen before he betrayed us...
ReinyRooster Posted March 10, 2014 Author #4 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I read that thread but there was never a report so I'm not sure if the device was ever installed. I like the look and functions of this one buy don't really want to spend that much: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Acumen-DGV-Display-Gear-Indicator-with-Voltage-Meter-All-Models-RED-LED-/141198945215?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e01cebbf&vxp=mtr Is the RSV set-up that these devices are plug and play or are we talking about splicing wires? dingy Posted March 10, 2014 #5 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) The 1st gen indicator plate appears to be a fit for the 2nd gen motor. With the plate installed, it would be a matter of running wires to front end and installing LED's to indicate gear position. I have mounted 3 LED's on Tweety to indicate 1,3 & 5 gears, that way I don't have to focus on dash to read digital readout. Didn't do 2 or 4th, no LED lit and I am in 2 or 4th, which is very easy to know which I am in. Stock neutral light indicator covers neutral. Gary Edited March 10, 2014 by dingy
Sylvester Posted March 10, 2014 #6 Posted March 10, 2014 Who really needs to know this? A tachometer solves all these issues much cheaper than a gear gauge/lights/indicator.
bongobobny Posted March 10, 2014 #7 Posted March 10, 2014 Ummm, for me it's the embarrassment of being in the wrong gear at a stop light...
Cougar Posted March 10, 2014 #8 Posted March 10, 2014 I have one that I have never installed yet. took a year to find the right wire to tap into One day maybe when I retire I will install it.
MikeWa Posted March 10, 2014 #9 Posted March 10, 2014 Until you find something here is a work around. Turn the cruise on. Engage then disengage the speed control. Now in fifth gear you will have the OD indicator on and the yellow cruise resume light on. In fourth gear you will have the yellow cruise resume on with the OD indicator off. In third gear and below both indicators will be off. Not what you are looking for but it does help. Mike
baylensman Posted March 11, 2014 #10 Posted March 11, 2014 I was thinking of this also. Did a long ride up the coast with my cutie on the back. Some spots speed drop to round 25-30 mph. Then you roll up to a stop what gear was I in? Would love to have a 1st gen style indicator
gez Posted March 11, 2014 #11 Posted March 11, 2014 Ummm, for me it's the embarrassment of being in the wrong gear at a stop light... I've left a STOP more than once in second gear. Never stalled, but you , and everyone else knows things just aren't right.
bongobobny Posted March 11, 2014 #12 Posted March 11, 2014 He!!, I've done 3rd with the trike!! OK by yourself but as Ride Captain not too cool!!!
