Guest Ben Hadizadeh Posted March 10, 2014 #1 Posted March 10, 2014 I have a 2001 Venture. When I pull the choke it starts, when I push the choke back in it shuts off after the warm up. Any suggestion or fix, appreciated.
Pegasus1300 Posted March 10, 2014 #3 Posted March 10, 2014 Has your bike been sitting for any length of time? If so it sounds like you to put fresh fuel in it along with a good slug of Berryman's B12 liquid. or B & D Gas treatment. The carbs may be gummed up. You may have to run two or 3 tanks thru it to get them cleaned out. If you check out the tech section here you should also see a complete carb rebuild if it is that bad.
cowpuc Posted March 10, 2014 #4 Posted March 10, 2014 Could be a plugged filter not allowing enough fuel to be pumped into the bowls.. Could also be a fuel pump issue.. Of course, could also be idle set to low but that shouldnt happen without someone having messed with the idle adjustment...... ANother possibilty is a cracked intake manifold between the carb and engine, or vacuum line off,,, sucking air..
cowpuc Posted March 10, 2014 #5 Posted March 10, 2014 Oh yea,,, check the petcock and make sure its on... Ya know,, I have also seen what you are experiencing caused from blackened plugs...
CMCOFFEY Posted March 10, 2014 #6 Posted March 10, 2014 Ben, how many miles do you have on your bike. I think you and I are in the same boat. I have an 01 that is running bad right now. I am changing the fuel filter, spark plugs, removing and cleaning carbs, and sync'ing the carbs this coming weekend. I will let you know if any of this helps. I already ran seafoam through a tank of gas and it helps a bit, but I am still getting horrible gas mileage and the bike is not running right. We'll figure this out.
