1sttenor Posted March 4, 2008 #1 Posted March 4, 2008 My wife has nearly quit riding with me complaining of too much wind buffeting. She says that after an hour behind me with our OEM windshield she gets headaches. I'm only 5' 10" and she's 5' 6", so on the pillion her head is slightly above mine. What windshield do y'all recommend including height and width.
Smokee Posted March 4, 2008 #2 Posted March 4, 2008 Go to "clearviewshields.com" and check their product out...wider than the OEM windshield and they come in different heights. The site tells you how to measure your bike for the height that's best for you. The "Ranch Manager" and I have had one on our '07 RSV for nearly a year, and love it.
Rick Butler Posted March 4, 2008 #3 Posted March 4, 2008 Tommy, The secret for a good passenger windshield is tall and wide. The OEM shield is good enough for the driver but pretty much blasts the passenger as the wind collapses right behind the driver into her face. You can verify this as you are moving by having the passenger moving her hand up and out to see where the edge of the wind vortex stops. You want a shield that will kick the air up and over your helmet and just clear hers. The same with the width where it should just clear the edge of her arms. For the RSV, the new Clearview XXL has been the best shield for my passenger that will also sheet rain off the screen instead of puddling water right in the middle. Hope this helps, Rick
James Ardrey Posted March 4, 2008 #4 Posted March 4, 2008 Definitely the Clearview shield. My wife complained about the same thing including the headaches. I am around your height and I got the tallest and widest and I couldn't be happier with it. It is about 4" wider than the oem and an inch taller. Personally I prefer a shield that comes up just below my eye view but that wouldn't help the buffeting that my wife experiences. I was amazed that even though the clearview is an inch taller than oem I can see over it even better that the oem because of the swept back angle of the cv shield. I have to sit erect to do so just like the oem but it is a plus when the shield is fogged up or in a heavy rain. I also noticed significant improvement in buffeting that I was experiencing with the oem shield. My wife says it has made all the difference. I wish I had done it when I bought it in 03. I also recommend the vent because in the summer time it is hotter because of the increased blocking of the wind. I also got the tented version and the concerns I had about nighttime riding with a tented ws have been put to rest. It is a slight tent and actually reduces glare from street and headlights at night but does not compromise visibility. Just my opinion. You will have to make up your own mind.
Guest 05RSMVTEXAN Posted March 4, 2008 #5 Posted March 4, 2008 I would have to agree with the others. I just rec'd my clearview shield in XXL with the 5 position vent for my 05 RSMV. I'm 6'4. The shield really helps me. Before my line of vision at times was messed up by the top of the shield ( This was really the case when I rode a RSTD!). Me and my wife just rode 400 miles on friday. She said she felt great the whole trip. And it was a mildly windy day.
1sttenor Posted March 4, 2008 Author #6 Posted March 4, 2008 Thanks guys. I'll be talking to them today.
royalstarjac Posted March 4, 2008 #7 Posted March 4, 2008 I put on the Show Chrome windshield thats 4" shorter than stock and about 3" wider. I like to have a windshield I can see over if I have to. I'm 6'1". So far no complaints from the back seat. She's 5' 8". Helmet style can also effect the amount of wind buffeting you experience.-Jack
bmxndad Posted March 5, 2008 #8 Posted March 5, 2008 We have the tallest Clearview and my passenger really likes it. She says the wind plants her head rather than hitting her in the face and forehead.
stardbog Posted March 5, 2008 #9 Posted March 5, 2008 My Wife is 5'10" and with Clearview XXL winshild she can't feel any or very little buffering Compare to stock windshield. Go with windshield vent That's realy help on summer rides too.
royalstarjac Posted March 5, 2008 #10 Posted March 5, 2008 My Wife is 10'10" and with Clearview XXL winshild she can't feel any or very little buffering Compare to stock windshield. Go with windshield vent That's realy help on summer rides too. 10'10"!!? Wow, yall must be a sight going down the road!
Mariner Fan Posted March 5, 2008 #12 Posted March 5, 2008 I just looked at the clearview windshield site and I'm hooked. Only thing I have to figure out is weather to get the XL or the XXL. I'm 6'3 and my wife is 5'2. I'm leaning towards the XL.
KiteSquid Posted March 5, 2008 #13 Posted March 5, 2008 BTW, the wind is also effected by the driver's and passenger's helmets!!!!!!
