I'm with ETCSWJoe- IF Yamie brings back a touring bike I bet its on the big twin platform. Air cooled Strato liner type.

If it indeed is an air cooled bike, wouldn't that be taking a step backwards?

That is real nice looking, and I am OK with that coming out. Hope it is NOT air cooled. Will it have a cassette deck??

The strat is air cooled, it is the same engine as my raider, which by the way is one of best bikes and engines I have ever had. That being said, after having the venture I would never go back to a air cooled tourer. The 113 ci engine is a torgue monster but gets very warm between the legs on a long hot ride. It also is fairly smooth but nothing like the the 1300 v4 in the venture.

A Tongue Monster that gets very warm between the legs???? A little too explicit for this forum :no-no-no::no-no-no::no-no-no::yikes:

Its not just the air cooling that I am curious about, the Strat/roadliner/raider line is also belt drive and also a HUGE pistoned/push rod motored scoot.. Raider,, if you dont mind me asking, how many miles you got on her, how does it do as far as vibrations during long distance touring (got any 8hr plus ride days on it?), how is it on fuel economy at steady highway speeds, any belt drive issues??

With all the move toward giving in to the "V-Twin" demand I can see where Yam will do exactly like the pic of the "Tour Strat" for their tour bike,,, it is gorgeous but sure am gonna miss our Ventures..

When are we (Venture/RSTD owners) gonna realize that the girl (Yamaha) isn't coming back??? It was a nice long marriage with so many good memories, but the fact is a more appealing partner caught her eye. A partner that is probably younger, faster, not as boring as us stable, faithful, touring guys. Our money is made, our friends are set, our lifestyle is consistent. All of that is good, but she is bored with it. She has made it pretty clear by her actions that she is looking for an up and comer with new money to spend for years down the road. Someone who is gaining new friends that she can show herself off to.

But, we are a sad lot. We hope upon hope that everytime the phone rings it will be her telling us that she made a mistake by leaving us, and she wants to come back. The truth is, it's fools gold. She is gone for good, and we can't quite bring ourselves to believe it. We really ought to get pissed and move on to some other deserving gal (Honda, Harley, Victory, Kawi) that truly sees our value, but, we won't do that. We keep waiting, and if by some miracle she does come calling us again, we'll remember the good memories and take her back in a heart beat because she is so fine.

Hadn't heard it put that way before... But, you may be right... I'm kinda sick of this heartache because I'm still longing for the younger days, back in the day, when all the girls were flirting for my attention. What happened.:bang head:

Very retro!!! Looks like they found a warehouse of old 60's stock and they reinvented it...

Yeah, after they cleared all the cassette decks out of the warehouse when they stopped production on the Venture , they found all these old bikes had been stored under the cassette decks.:whistling:

That kid in the video acted like he had never seen a kick start bike before:rotf:

Hopefully this "step back in time" attitude of mother Yamaha is gonna eventually lead them to reintroducing a brand new 1983 Venture!!! :bighug:

Tell ya what Yamaha, put em together with upgraded stator's and tranny's this time, add on 10% to the original MSRP so you make a few bucks and they would sell like hot cakes!!! Oh yea, and PLEASE leave the cassette deck on the new ones,, it just wouldnt be one of our bikes without it!!!!!:cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10:

You gotta be kidding me !

Well it is a cool bike though in many ways with the retro look and all but not the Venture ball game that we are all waiting for.

I sincerely hope that Yamaha will display a new big cruiser for the year of 2015 with all the whistles we would like to have. It sure is abut time for that. Still, I would keep my Red Baron since I simply adore the Venture and think it is such a great bike. Actually it is the best bike I have ever owned and nothing will ever replace that for me.

Lets see what happens in 2015 like we have been doing the last 5 years or so :fingers-crossed-emo

Sorry my dictionary picked this word, and i didn't catch it, I would never put in something like that, if you was following my train of thought you would know I meant torque not tongue. I'm sure you've never made a spelling error. As far as cowpucs questions, yes I have rode all day for several days on the raider, very comfortable for a none tourer. The belt drive is very smooth and have over 35k on the bike and belt. I would still ride this bike over any, but the wife was not comfortable on the back. I get around 42 mpg on long rides and about 39 around town, pretty good for a 1900cc.

Thanks Raider!!

I have bought/sold a number of belt drive bikes (mostly HD's) and, mainly cause everyone seems to be getting away from shaft drive, have always wondered about em.. Never kept one around long enough to find out if they really are trustworthy for taking out for the summer.. Another part of my inquiry comes from the number of Strats/Roadliners I am seeing coming up for sale at really good prices.. Personally I like the looks of that "touring" Strat that Joe posted up, and by the sounds of things (stated mpg, durability, smoothness) they would make a worthy longgg distance machine!

I like it. Did anyone else notice the ODO had 19 miles on it and the trip had 119?

Yeah, they vibrate quite a bit. 19 miles can sometimes feel like 119!

I had a 1978 that I rode in the winter for a 240 mile trip. When I arrived at my destination, I could hardly peel my hands off the bars my finger joints were so stiff. Like my hands use to feel after racing my old 2 stroke CR250 in the mid '70s.

I'm on my second SR500 now, a 1979. I actually love it, kick start and all. Haven't done any straight up 240 mile jaunts on it though.

I would love it more with EFI. If you even think about touching the throttle during start-up, you can flood these things so easily. Then, yes, an electric start would be oh so welcome.

The guy was right on with the fuel mileage. 60+/- is about right what I get.
