yamagrl Posted March 4, 2014 #1 Posted March 4, 2014 Last October I had ridden up to my parents home in western Kentucky and decided to have an adventurous trip home so... Left Wingo, Ky about 1030am Crossed the Ohio River from Wickliff, Ky to south of Cairo, IL About one mile later crossed the Mississippi River into MO Rode south to West Memphis, AR Back across the Mississippi to Memphis, TN Into Mississippi through Alabama and back to Florida about 5ish in the morning. It was right at 800 miles, 18.5 hours. of course I was kinda lolli-gaggin' and enjoying the ride. You can actually stand in Kentucky and look across the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, across Illinois and see Missouri in the background. Life just don't no better'n this!!! ...think I might just put this in for one of those Wild Hair Awards
djh3 Posted March 4, 2014 #2 Posted March 4, 2014 Last summer I did this trip. My buddy and I had left outside Toronto Canada the morning before so like 750 miles the day before. Then I made this leg from Blufield Wv to home map shows 785 miles, 6 states and I left Wv @ 7am and was in my drivway at 7:30 pm that night. My trip was not as leasurly as yours. LOL was still kinda cool. Probably as close as I'll get to an iron butt. In case your wondering its 62.8 mph average mph. That included going trhu Charlote NC, the hidious I 26 from Columbia to I 95 which your lucky to make 65mph and construction in Jacksonville fla and hitting Orlando @............yup 6pm. My buddy and I for the last 3-4 yr made an annual trip up from Charlotte to outside Cincinatti Oh. All on backroads. Was fun on a couple of them trips to see how many time you could cross in and out of a state on one road.
yamagrl Posted March 4, 2014 Author #3 Posted March 4, 2014 That, my friemd, is some riding! Sent from my moto X
cowpuc Posted March 4, 2014 #4 Posted March 4, 2014 Yamagrl, was that on your 84? Not that it matters but emotionally it does to me As far as I am concerned you totally deserve a Wild Hair Award, what ever that is!! 800 miles lolly gaggin around for the day is nothing to scoff at!! Its amazing how fast the miles stack up when your out having fun aint it?? Just lean back and watch the world go by... Thanks for the post!! Puc Oh yea,,, pics,,, we need pics!!!
djh3 Posted March 4, 2014 #5 Posted March 4, 2014 Yamagrl, yea thats a nice ride and nothing to scoff at for sure. 800 miles in a day is a good sized chunk of road, especially when you think about it being backroads. Mine was all interstate, but your rite Cowpuc the miles just sort of melt once you get in the groove.
yamagrl Posted March 4, 2014 Author #6 Posted March 4, 2014 Yes, I was on Big Red, my beloved 84 XVZ12DL. The total ride was about 1350. About 575 up and about 800 home. It's not so much the mileage, but the fact that it was EIGHT states in one day. KY, IL, MO, AR in only 2 hour then TN, MS,AL,FL. The confluence of the rivers is absolutely amazing! This is where most of the water from the eastern states comes together with most of the water from the midwest states. Phenomenal! Often someone will ask me if it's hard to ride long distances. I always reply.. I love to ride...love-to-ride... sometimes I get on and just ... well.. I ride... it matters not whether it's 50 behind me, 500 or 1500...love to ride... No whut i meen Vern?

Puc Oh yea,,, pics,,, we need pics!!!Puc, WildHair69 was/is one of our members who was known to cross the country to get a hot dog at some meet & Eat somewhere. He used to be on here regular but, I think his health got bad and there may have been some life changes. At any rate we don't hear from him or see him much anymore, In fact as I write this, has anyone heard from Wild Hair lately? I miss that old codger.
djh3 Posted March 4, 2014 #9 Posted March 4, 2014 I can remember crossing on I 20 from West Memphis going east and that whole flat land there before you cross into Tn was under water. You could see roofs of house trailers and the ocasional TV antenna.
yamagrl Posted March 4, 2014 Author #10 Posted March 4, 2014 Like minded female, same age.... how come we ain't met yet? Maybe we will. Are you going to SE Texas MD on the the last weekend of March?

If that had been on the Interstate you would have gotten yourself an IRON BUTT Saddle Sore achievement! That's kinda like a Wild Hair Award.... VentureFar...
