CMCOFFEY Posted February 27, 2014 #1 Posted February 27, 2014 Anybody ever carry a bass guitar or something similar on their RSV? I am thinking that putting it in the passenger seat and bungee cording the crud out of it will be the best idea. I eventually want to get a basket for the hitch, but I do not have the $$ right now. Suggestions? the bass is in a hard case, so damage to it is unlikely. however having it stick up to the top of my antennas is going to cause drag.
samrii Posted February 27, 2014 #2 Posted February 27, 2014 I know a guy who carries his 6 string in a backpack case he bought. it's a softcase with shoulder straps just like a backpack. sorry not sure where he got it.
bongobobny Posted February 27, 2014 #3 Posted February 27, 2014 Cut the neck halfway between the top and the bottom and install a hinge so you can fold it?? On a serious note (two A's below middle C) here's a mod that may help you out. Remove the trunk and once you get it off replace the screws with some longer ones and screw them in upside down and use a lock nut so they stick up in the air like studs. Then use wing nuts to hold the trunk down when installed so the next time it is a fast removal of the trunk. Your bass will now lay flat across the passenger seat and the trunk rack, and you will have some good places to attach bungees. I'm assuming you are talking Bass the guitar and not Bass the fish. The song "Fish Heads" is going thru my mind right now...
The Tooch Posted February 27, 2014 #4 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) If you have crash bars around your saddle bags you take one bag off stand the case in were the bag goes and bungee it to the side of the bike. long as you don't need the bag space. I don't have any photos......but Elvis kind of had the idea in this one! HEY KEVIN/PRAIRIEHAMMER & STEVE/HELL YEA what bike is Elvis ride'n? Edited February 27, 2014 by The Tooch How well do you know motorcycles???!!!!!
Motorcycle Mike Posted February 27, 2014 #5 Posted February 27, 2014 I have never carried any of my guitars on the bike but have carried my golf clubs many times bungied across the back seat.
M61A1MECH Posted February 27, 2014 #6 Posted February 27, 2014 A buddy of mine made a rack to carry his golf clubs behind his trunk. He bought a trailer hitch for his venture that was made for a reciever then ge made the rack to fit in the receiver and stand up behind the trunk, puts a couple of bungees on it up high and ties it to the luggage rack on his trunk. He did have to add some rear lights because the set up covered the tail light.
dacheedah Posted February 27, 2014 #7 Posted February 27, 2014 I would think you could make a bracket off the rear of the trunk to hold it neck down and strap it with a bungie. Simplest would be to get a hitch and a cooler carrier, strap it at saddle bag guards, under trunk.
djh3 Posted February 27, 2014 #9 Posted February 27, 2014 Not carried a guitar but I have carried a pair of RK mufflers from the other side of the state. Crossways on the passenger seat. I carry a suitcase every week for work, and sometimes way more. I took the allen bolts just behind the crash bars and got some "P" clamps from the local hardware store. I think 1/2" or so. Put bolts back thru the "P" clamp and tightend up so clamp was open side up (when you look down it looks like an 0) now I have someplace a bungee end will fit thru nicley. Then from clamp around object and usually up to the luggage rack on trunk.
dacheedah Posted February 27, 2014 #10 Posted February 27, 2014 Saw this a couple of years ago.... Keith Great place and case for a long gun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RandyR Posted February 27, 2014 #11 Posted February 27, 2014 I've carried a full size dreadnaught guitar on a motorcycle a few times. Usually an acoustic bass guitar will be 1 inch wider, and have a neck about 4 inches longer. (you didn't say if it was an acoustic bass or what style of electric). An electric will be smaller than an acoustic, generally.
