txlen Posted February 23, 2014 #1 Posted February 23, 2014 I just bought a new to me 2005 RSTD and want to put a trunk on it.. What are the options for a trunk mount available ?? Anyone have ideas ??? thanks in advance... Len
eusa1 Posted February 23, 2014 #2 Posted February 23, 2014 Many here have used the 99 to 2013 venture trunk and mounts, it is a direct bolt on fit.
TDbiker Posted February 24, 2014 #3 Posted February 24, 2014 I also have a 2005 RSTD and have done precisely what you want to do. IMHO, the easiest (not necessarily the cheapest) is to purchase a 2nd Gen Venture trunk mount and the Venture fender rails. This is a direct bolt-on option. However, if you want to be able to easily switch between a trunk and the stock passenger backrest, this is not the way to go. Others have fabricated a removable trunk mount that will accomplish this. I went with a HD trunk, and am very happy with the results. Not cheap, however... Another option is a generic trunk you can find on ebay for around $100 and a Wompus rack trunk mount for about $250. I initially went this route to see if I liked having a trunk. Good luck, Glenn
txlen Posted February 25, 2014 Author #4 Posted February 25, 2014 Thanks TD ... Yea I have an old style HD Tour Pack made out of fiberglass..I believe it's early 70's or so..Doesn't even have the holes for the backrest pad drilled in it... I'm gonna use that trunk and figure out a mount... The wompus sounds like the easiest deal so far .... Len
djh3 Posted February 25, 2014 #5 Posted February 25, 2014 Look thru the 2nd gen side of fourm here. I think someone was removing thiers. I only remember because they had some radio issues or something and thought maybe it was connected.
