In Illinois, there is a law on the books:"Left Lane Law - While traveling on an interstate highway, a vehicle may not be driven in the left lane, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle. This prohibition does not apply to authorized emergency vehicles while engaged in official duties." http://www3.illinois.gov/PressReleases/ShowPressRelease.cfm?SubjectID=3&RecNum=2581

So how long do I have to overtake the other car?

As I kind of illustrated, in this situation, I would be continually overtaking and passing other vehicles. I just won't let you cause me to slow down and be boxed in because you don't pass me quickly. Conversely, if I am passing you and we are approaching another car ahead then I finish passing very quickly so that you have room to pass them without slowing.

Illinois got some crazy laws on the books if you ask me.

I live on the Indiana Illinois state line on Illinois side. Thought one of the two had added a no stating in the passing lane for not than a half mile on a four lane highway. Swear it was around the time the law quoted above went into effect. I've been on a volunteer ambulance service for about 12 years. The interstate and 4 lane state roads around here tend to be much smoother in the passing lane. Guys where I go when driving with s patient in thr back. Policy is we are supposed to go no more than 10 over the posted limit. Have a few lead foot drivers that try to drive the rig like a NASCAR vehicle. You don't really want my opinion on those folks.

IMHO anytime the politicians see that the citizens are saving money they will figure out a way to get that money.

Boomer....who sez the only good politician is one who is deceased.

I think the fella hit the nail on the head when he mentioned the blind spots.... My son just got himself the Ford version of the electric vehicle... That thing is so quiet inside it is danged scary... even hard to hear a harley sneak up on you when riding in that thing... Seems like now the cages are being built by blind and deaf engineers, what with blind spots and quiet-ride!! cheers everyone!!

I think the behavior stems from trying to hyper mile these cars. When in traffic they accelerate so slow even mopeds have to swerve around them. If they are making a left trunk any time in the next two days they move left and stay there, at 2 miles under the limit.
