Bubber Posted February 20, 2014 #1 Posted February 20, 2014 I see that DarrinGT has a picture of new (yellow) coil wires being spliced into his original wires from his coil, (His is a 97 and I was thinking of it for a 2nd Gen) Don't know if there is a difference. How is this done and how does it work? Any negative results? No way to plug them into a coil directly????? Inquiring minds. Bubber
Bubber Posted February 22, 2014 Author #2 Posted February 22, 2014 OK trash this posting. NO interest in it.
ragtop69gs Posted February 22, 2014 #3 Posted February 22, 2014 Since nobody else will talk to you Bubber, I'll give it a halfa$$ed shot. There is one of the automotive performance ignition companies that makes primary wire splices, can't remember their name right now (it may be Bosch), cut the old wire near the coil leaving enough to add the splice, push the splice connector onto wire, add new wire to other side of connector and twist ends to lock the connector. The wires are bonded into our coils so it's this splice or four new coils. I have never used them but have read that they do work well.
GeorgeS Posted February 22, 2014 #4 Posted February 22, 2014 As long as this has come up. Question? Can 1st gen coils be used on a 2nd gen ?? Just wondering, has anybody done this ??
k9cottage Posted February 22, 2014 #5 Posted February 22, 2014 they look ok no reason why they wouldn't work

Bubber Bubber, I asked DarrinGT where he got the splices and here is his response. For the wires I used NGK Watertight Splices and they are built just for bikes that you cant remove the plug wires. Here is a link to them: https://www.denniskirk.com/ngk/wire-...prd/200355.sku Little cheaper here: http://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=20074 Pretty easy to do, just like unscrewing the caps. The wires that I bought are actually for a first gen, the only difference is that the front plugs have a 90 degree angle instead of a 45 degree, so they will have to sit sideways in the head because they wont clear the valve cover. Ill have pics of them installed soon. Thanks again, Darrin
