Brian,

No offense, but this could be a candidate for that other thread on "worst songs ever." Just sayin' . . . good idea, bad execution.

(Yeah, I'm an OF who doesn't appreciate the metal.)

Like they say...no accounting for taste. Yeah, its rock and roll...and a bit on the gritty side. But if youve made the ride to Sturgis, it will speak to ya.

My first trek to Sturgis,SD was in 1975 and 27 in a row there after and 30 times total.

Met a whole lot of great people and have some great memories and some really great rides.

Sturgis has just become to PC anymore. More like Disneyland then the bike rally it used to be.

I also have some really old T's :rotf::rotf::rotf:...........Ron

Not one helmet in the whole state if you don't count the horns. tsk tsk tsk

(at least that is what the video would lead you to believe)

Those are all professional riders on a closed course. Do not attempt.

:RED:Brian, That was a good piece of music. A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to go for a while. Haven't been yet but it may happen in the future.

The future is NOW. Only 22 more weeks till the rally kicks off this year...

BTW...Zwarte does that song much better LIVE...I have seen them perform it 3 times, and it kicks butt. Much better bass line and drums.

As the event gets closer, you may be hearing from me again on this subject...after all, what better place for a VentureRider meet-n-eat-n-ride-n-eat-n-party-n-eat-n-drink type of event?

Well, I haven't been back to Sturgis since the early 80s (first trip was '74). Just didn't want to fight the crowds and commercialization that it has become. But I'll mull it over some this year and check with She Who Must Be Obeyed. Might decide to go back....

Ride safe,

Goose

(but I'll be wearing a helmet - probably ruin the whole rally for all them 'professional riders'- they may even chase me out of town!)

I'm willing to ride with a helmeted rider, if your willing to ride with a lidless one!

:rotf:

Hey I'm not sure where I will be staying this year. I'm watching the websites to see which bands are being booked. Glencoe, where I have stayed the last 2 years, has not announced the bands on their website yet. BuffaloChip has Kellie Pickler, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd,(sp?) and some others.

Pricing is always an issue with these campgrounds...so between the bands, the pricing, and the facilities, you can make reservations early, or...not.

Then again, you can stay at the campgrounds that have less entertainment, but much cheaper prices.

If Glencoe does not announce a good lineup, I may 'jump ship' and stay at the Chip this year.

Anyone willing to do a GEN-U-INE meet-n-eat at the rally, let me know, that could sway my choices too.

I haven't been there since the 70s & heard it has become a commercial event, but an awesome spectacle & worth the ride.

Bad timing, we have to work in August.

I've always wondered why they picked such a HOT month.

Anyone ever make the old Charity News Meet in Columbus, Ohio in the 70's. See that skinny young kid on the supposedly 650 Yammer busting all those Hardleys and the 1st Gold wing to show up on the strip???

Dang...sorry about the bad timing thing. Its got more to do with the history of racing Harleys and Indians, back in the 1930's....one of the advantages of having it in August, is that the nite time temps are PERFECT for sleeping in your tent. It's generally in the high 50's to mid 60's by 6 AM.

It is a HUGE event. I'm thinking that there may possibly be some riders on this website, that may have the idea its a Harley event. Well, true, Harleys are a big part of the rally.

But keep in mind that in a rally this large, there is every type, kind, size, color, make, model, and description, when it comes to the motorcycles that show up.

If only 10% of the bikes were metric, thats still somewhere around 50,000 metric bikes! And I'm pretty sure the number is higher than that. Every manufacturer shows up to this event. And the vendors support every bike ever made.

I'm riding the Venture up there this year, and gonna be hanging with mostly Harley riders. (hey, I'll act like I'm on a slow bike!)

I've always ridden my Harleys to the rally, so this will be a first for me, in a way. I'll be looking for other Venture Riders, so I can say hey, are you a member of VentureRider.org? I might even make up some flyers or cards to pass out. (with Don's permission of course).

I'd sure like to see some members be able to make this ride. You are guaranteed to have a great time....sure, its a big commercial event...but so are all the big rallies.

Anyone who has never been, and would like to, just google 'Sturgis Rally' and you will come up with a LOT of information. It really is a great vacation. And dont forget...Mt Rushmore is waiting!

I'll buy the first round for the first 20 members that show up and meet up with me somewhere.

Any takers?

I ride my Venture "every year" I go with 5 friends, all of them ride Harleys. Whats cool is, at every stop, people look at my bike and don't pay much attention to theirs. I LIKE THAT. All the Harleys look the same, mine sticks out!

My 1st Venture was a 2002, traded it for my 2007 Midnight! both have been to Sturgis.

we went in 04 and had a great time camping out at hog heaven just west of exit 30, you go in by the motorcycle dirt track you see off I90. we only went downtown sturgis a couple of times for a couple hrs. there's soooo much great riding to be do in the area, your'e wasting your time in any town over 2 hrs. i even got interviewed on a doctamentory about sturgis called "a million motorcycles". it give a great overview of the history and the many places to ride in the blackhills area. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7019090 it's a good view to get you in the know and the areas to visit while there. you can go a week before the rally and most of the venders are there already set-up.
