Upcoming water pump fix project ????

Gonna be working on water pump on my '88VR XVZ1300DU that should have the metal impeller.

QUESTION: Is it more practical to disassemble the pump first to determine what parts are actually required, OR, get new parts before taking it apart?

 

Now after studying the parts list I find:

11H-12438-00-00 SEAL, MECHANICAL $28.74 1 PART OBSOLETE

So now what, is there a substitute?

I ordered my parts from parts monster if you look at different years same # its a good part number. and behind number is a link to new part numbers. mine was a 83 year ordered all parts available. now turn on the heat so I can work on it. lol

11H-12438-10-00 is a replacement for 11H-12438-00-00 per http://www.yamahapartsmonster.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042d2ef8700209bc789efc/water-pump item #8. $22.27 before shipping.

BTW I saw a new OEM water pump on Ebay the other day for around $120. Not sure if it is still there...

Informaion below is for rebuilding waterpump on VMax's. Parts are same as Ventures.

OIL SEAL,S-TYPE 93101-10090-00

BEARING 93306-00004-00

GASKET,WATER PUMP 3JP-12449-02-00

O-RING 93211-16591-00 (on main outer cover)

O-RING 93210-27778-00 (on elbow)
