DragonRider Posted February 10, 2014 #1 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) Today my daughter called to tell us that our beloved pet Snickers, was not able to get up and had quit eating, we are visiting our son in S. La., so she was taking him to the vet, actually Snickers belonged to her, but one of our grandchildren was afraid of him so he lived with us. He was 17 years old and quite the character. His breathing was labored and he wasnt eating so the Vet suggested putting him down. I have had to do this with all my pets, as they lived a long time, so I know it was really hard for my daughter to do by herself. Its like loosing a family member, Charlene has broken down several times, as I have. These are pics of the last time I walked him during Snowjam, he loved playing in the snow, even though he was blind. RIP Snickers Edited February 10, 2014 by DragonRider
GAWildKat Posted February 10, 2014 #2 Posted February 10, 2014 I'm sorry for your loss. But look at the bright side, he got to enjoy the snow 2weeks ago. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk

Loosing a good friend who has been there thru thick and thin is one of the hardest things to go thru - may God be with you all as you go thru the grieving process!! Job well done Snickers!! RIP Puc
oldgoat Posted February 10, 2014 #5 Posted February 10, 2014 I remember bringing you home. You were so small and cuddly with your tiny paws and soft fur. You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears flopping. Once in awhile, you'd let out a little yelp just to let me know that this was your territory. Making a mess of the house and chewing on everything in sight became a passion, and when I scolded you, you just put your head down and looked up at me with those innocent eyes, as if to say, "I'm sorry, but I'll do it again as soon as you're not watching." As you got older, you protected me by looking out the window and barking at everyone who walked by. When I had a tough day at work, you would be waiting for me with your tail wagging, just to say, "Welcome home. I missed you." You never had a bad day and I could always count on you to be there for me. When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you would hop on my lap, looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than to have me pat your head so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg. As you got older, you moved around more slowly. Then, one day, old age finally took its toll and you couldn't stand on those wobbly legs anymore. I knelt down and patted you lying there, trying to make you young again. You just looked up at me as if to say that you were old and tired and that after all these years of not asking for anything, you had to ask me for one favor. With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the vet. One last time you were lying next to me. For some strange reason, you were able to stand up in the animal hospital; perhaps it was your sense of pride. As the vet prepared us for your crossing over the Rainbow Bridge, you turned your head and looked at me as if to say, "Thank you for taking care of me." I thought, "No.... thank you for taking care of me."

Carbon_One Posted February 11, 2014 #11 Posted February 11, 2014 Sorry for your loss Lewis & Charlene. Yep you loss a family member there and will require some grieving time to come to terms with his passing. Never easy making that decision at the vets either. Been there a few times myself. Peace. Larry

Barrycuda Posted February 11, 2014 #15 Posted February 11, 2014 I am sorry Lewis for your loss. It is always real hard to lose such a loyal, loving family member. I won't be in good shape emotionally when it becomes my turn. The bright side is an amazing amount of time well spent with your dog and your family
GeorgeS Posted February 11, 2014 #16 Posted February 11, 2014 Recently lost my black lab, so I'm with you on this my friend. Worst part is when opening the car door in the driveway, he is not there to greet me anymore
Squidley Posted February 13, 2014 #17 Posted February 13, 2014 Never an easy thing to do, but what needed to be done. My brother just lost his Dachshund of 13 years, he passed within 36 hours of getting sick. Just like you are with Snickers, my brother and his family are devastated. I wish you all the peace you need to get past this....all the best my friend.
