For me, I would either get the Kawasaki Voyager or the HD Ultra Classic. But from the choices you listed, it would be the HD. The BMW does nothing for me, the Indian is not pillion friendly. All that money and no trunk and the passenger gets pegs???? The victory as far as I am concerned is just ugly.

Oh I've been following your threads. I even had a pic of your Ural in the snow in front of a Taco Bell as a screen saver for a while. The nearest dealer is almost 100 miles away but I'm going to check them out. They look like a blast

Thats encouraging!

LilBeaver is the only other member here who has ridden my Ural...He got roughly an hour or so of saddle time...and was kinda getting the hang of it...they do take a little getting used to. Your first half hour on one will leave you feeling very much like a newbie. But within a few days to a couple of weeks, it all starts to feel comfortable and fun.

BTW...there are some good deals on late model carbed units since the announcement of fuel injection...I have seen them in the $7,000 to $12,000 range depending on mileage and options...now and then one will show up for around $4,000 to $6,000 but these are usually older or need work of some kind.

The interaction of the Ural company, and its focus on owners and riders, is truly amazing...nothing like it exists in the top motorcycle brands. Of course, when you handbuild only about 600 of these bikes per year for the USA, things will be more personal.

If you think you might want to learn more about them...warts and all, check them out on facebook, twitter, or click on www.sovietsteeds.com and sign up. Its free. Ilya, the head honcho at Ural, might even say hello...:happy34:

If I was buying new, this year, I would be doing some Serious Research on the New Indians !! Before buying anything else.

Those New Engines, have some very good Points, A V-Twin that is everything an HD engine never was ! And, a single engine/ tranny all in one unit.

All the ride test's I have read concerning them seem to be fantastic. Not sure thought on Seating, Romminess, and road performance.

However one guy took a test ride, and seemed very impressed with all aspects of this new bike.

However, it is New, as they say. Reliability as yet to be determined.

But your going to have a hard time, One Upping/ a Venture or an RSTD !! The Value, of a Low milage, 3 to 6 year old, either Venture, or RSTD, is going to be hard to beat !!!

Dated???? So what??? They work !!! And anything that needs to be fixed, or updated, will cost you a LOT!! Less then the Sales Tax, on ANY!!! New Bike !!

My 08 RSTD, does everything I need for the open road. If I want to go really FAST, well, I take my Sport Bike. ( But its only comfy for about 2 hours ) But, Darn, its fun to ride that thing !!!

( But haveing said all this, {I know, I talk to much } I would still be seriously researching the new Indian's ) Love the looks of those new engines, !!!

Here's an idea then .... buy a new Indian and swap the motor into your RSTD ... then you'll have a really good lookin scoot (coz the rest of the Indian bike is butt fugly!) :stickpoke: :rotf:

So are the Victory's ( as to looks, that is ) Don't know anything else about them .

This is also why I'm stikin with my RSTD, its not " butt fugly" as you say Ha Ha

The kawasaki Vulcan/voyager would be an excellent choice, because you can pick up a 2011-2013 relatively cheaper than the victory, and even the FB6, which is sweet. The voyager did have heat issues on the passenger R leg, and made some heat cowl where it is SUPPOSED to distribute the heat away from your leg. They are reliable, liquid cooled and have the flagship of a Vulcan which are notoriously dependable. They have LED, ABS and radios and speakers, with cruise.

Next choice is the FB6, or the honda CTX 1300. Liquid cooled, low maintenance, reliable.

Maybe FJR or Concourse, or BMW K series bikes...

For me, I always am eyeballing the Goldwing, but that's just me.

Either way, maybe make a list and see about test riding them to get a better feel for what fits you best. Research the ones you like for reliability, comfort, and owner reviews...

Yea Barry,, if I am thinking of the one you are referring too, the one with the unique styled fairing (which I really like the looks of,, hey,, to each his own), good looking bike!!

Just curious you guys,, are those shaft or belt drive??

There I go hi-jacking again,, sorry...

You misunderstood (I think) .... the RSTD (which is good lookin) with the Indian motor (which is good lookin according to you) ... would make a really good lookin bike.

The rest of the Indian (excluding engine) is the one that's "butt fugly" (and IMO, FWIW, so is the Victory VISION) ... but I do like the style of the CCT.

Now, if I could have the 2014 HD Ultra Limited with the Victory engine..... :thumbsup2: coz I do really like what they've done with the 2014 model HD

(will a guy ever be completely satisfied?)

The two things I've heard negative about the Kawasaki Voyager is that the tour bags aren't very good quality and the fuel mileage is only like 32-35. If it weren't for the fuel mileage it would be a major contender as I think it is a beautiful machine.

I have rode the Victory CCT and was very impressed with the handling, power was good, and the electronics are great.

I do have a question about riding a BMW. If I stop off for a Beer do they put an umbrella in it??:whistling:

I'm going to take a ride on the Indian as soon as the weather breaks. We just got a new Indian dealer in Columbus OH at the Iron Pony which also has the Victorys. I also agree that it will be hard to replace the RSV. Like I said, I see things I like but haven't fallen in love yet.

Posted

Look for the last year of black on a RSV, hope the first buyer bought it 3 or so years after it was on the floor so it still has a few years of warranty.

But maybe the ones I got will hold on.

Otherwise get old and get a Honda trike.

I have to admit that the Venture is getting a little heavy for me so I have been looking around a little. The Yamaha FJR1300es sure looks good to me.

Try a Triumph. FANTASTIC!!!

I spent 3 years researching touring bikes and then bought my 2007 (5000 miles) in march 2013. Now 15,000 miles and I am convinced this bike is everything I want in a touring bike. Wife and i sat on them all and the RSV is the one the wife was the most comfortable on.

Guess what, if momma is happy then everyone is happy.

I would buy another venture in a heart beat and then do all the same mods to it as I have now. I love my RSV. Period.

I've sat on a couple Voyagers, too cramped up for tall guys. The Victory CCT feels great. I'm afraid to test ride one for fear of coming home with a new bike payment.

What is it about bikes? You can have a garage full and still go out and look at the new ones. I rode a Victory CCT, nice bike, but somehow I expected more. Wasn't enough of a WOW factor to get rid of my Venture. Didn't think it had any more power, definitely didn't run nor shift as nice as the Venture. It did carry its weight well, had cable clutch, cable throttle, and a large gap between the side case lid and case, (correction it does have ABS). If getting a new bike I would want the "new stuff" throttle by wire, ABS, traction control, hydraulic clutch etc. It would be hard to convince my wife on another bike. The Venture is "hers" I just steer it.

Planning to test ride an Indian Chieftain in the near future.

I was at the bike show last weekend and noticed all of the Vic's had cable clutch.

yup, they do -but- you can get a hydraulic clutch kit for them.

On older models some have had the cables break but I haven't heard much about that on newer ones.

Mine works fine and I don't even realize it's cable.

New ? I would go with a Goldwing .They changed everything from what I understand and put a 1800 cc power plant in 2001 and newer. I can't compare many cruisers because I always laughed at them until I got my 85 venture Royal . I have drove a 2002 wing and that thing handles like it's on rails and power out the wazoo. The biggest + reverse ,Just a well thought out ride. :2cents:

The GL1800 is an awesome bike alright. Had one for a while ... felt more like a 2-wheeled car to me. There will come a day when I will flip this Vic for a Wing ... when I get OLD. :rotfl:

I agree that the Wing is the most well thought out touring machine and I think the new BMW GTL is right there with it. I just don't care for the styling. I feel the same as SilvrT that it feels like a two wheeled Civic. You could not go wrong with a Honda for reliability

I'm not putting the cable clutch down actually maybe not a bad idea as not much to go wrong and maintenance fairly easy. Just spray the cable with lube once and awhile and good to go.

Silver how does the cable feel compared to the hydraulic?
