Remember when you were a kid and all the boys were collecting baseball cards?? I do,, like it was yesterday.. Maybe the reason why I remember this was baseball cards just didn't trip my wire. My "bent" was bikes, bikes and more bikes.. It can be a traumatic thing being "different" (they say we remember trauma more than pleasure) and back then a kid wasn't exactly "admired" for his hearts passion of bikes, bike shops and for those that rode .. :confused24:

Today, while goofing off in our basement (MAN CAVE), I ran across something that brought all those memories right back to the surface. Memories of while all the other kids were spending time buying packs of bubble gum with cards inside, I was busy collecting motorcycle brochures and hanging out in local bike shops.:whistling:.

I always loved drooling over bikes, bugging the shop sales people, watching the mechanics, hearing bikes start and the smells - oh the smells!! There is just something really special about the mixture of the smell of new tires, spare parts, exhaust fumes, freshly uncrated bikes and repair shop odors that hit me like a high octane drug - it was (still is) intoxicating!!

After spending hours carefully going over all the bikes, bugging the sales people and getting my fix I could hear little voices calling me from the brochure racks.. If I wasn't being pressured to leave the establishment, I would dig thru the racks until I found the brochure that was speaking to me and it would follow me home.. At home I had a little blue notebook where I carefully clipped in each new brochure that was now mine.. I would spend hours going thru my little note book, bonding with each of my prizes - tattering their edges as I admired and studied each bike.. Oh the memories..

Today, as I walked past a box in the man cave, I thought I heard those same little voices calling me back to the brochure rack.. Bewildered, I opened the box and this is what I found...:cool10::cool10:

While thumbing thru my old book I noticed something.. Look closely at picture number 7, the one showing the Duc 160.. Notice the Suzuki 350 Rebel shown beside it, see the writing above it? $770 for a brand new 350 Rebel, $975 for a brand new Titan 500!!:stirthepot:

The 500 Kawasaki does it for me. Wow that rings home I looked at them in 74 they were green that year. I had just turned 16 and my folks said if I took a motorcycle safety class they would co-sign for a road bike. I was talked out of the Kawasaki and went with the TX 500 by Yamaha. My Dad didn't think the 2 smoke was a good idea for a road bike I guess manufactures didn't either. Put what I thought was a lot of miles on that Yamaha and I didn't have to hitch hike for 10 months of the year.

When I was a child, I lived on a street with all boys. So I was a Tom boy as they used to call a girl back then. I also collected baseball cards. Still upsets me because I am sure I had all those famous players from back in the day. My Mother was very neat and tidy and I imagine my collection wound up in a dump somewhere.

We used to ride on my neighbors jittney (spelling?). I guess that is as close as I got to motorized vehicles. We had many years of fun. Still like boys more than girls. Never liked dolls that much.

I have probably 1000 baseball cards from the mid 70's when we collected them . My wife also collected cards. I havent looked at them in a long time. I grew up in Redford Michigan and on Grand River was a dealer called Villedge Cycle . I used to go in there all the time and dream when I was a kid.

Wow, you sure brought back some memories, especially the Ducati brochures. Those 160 Monza Juniors are rare birds. Did you ever ride a 250 Diana Mark 3?

Thanks Puc.

Your welcome Randy! Nope, never did get the chance to ride a Diana.. Thats what you grew on wasn't it?

Your dad probably heard that the old H1 was the fastest production bike on the market at the time and didnt want to put a monster like that screamin triple in the hands of a new rider,, cant blame him!!:stirthepot:

I had a BSA B50MX, it sure seamed like a lot more than 38 HP to me. I actually used the engine in my street-able Gold Star B50SS frame. When I sold out my parts I was stupid because I still had the shortie aluminum pan seat and the one gallon alloy tank in great condition. I won't say what I got for the lot of it but I'll bet those two items more than made it worthwhile for the dealer who bought me out.
