VentureFar Posted February 6, 2014 #1 Posted February 6, 2014 The Mile Eater logo Tshirt from the Iron Butt Assoc caught my eye but I needed 2 completed qualifying events to be eligible to order it. No problem on my Rick Butler modified seat! Hop on at 7am and hop off at midnight with 1000 miles in between and voila, T shirt eligible. I emailed Mike Kneebone, President of IBA today ad he told me he sign my cert a few days ago. I guess it is the small things that make my day lately. I have done two 1000's so far and would love to share do's and don'ts on this thread. Anyone want to share their IBA experiences? VentureFar...
Barrycuda Posted February 6, 2014 #2 Posted February 6, 2014 Congrats to you!!! I have yet to do one but it is certainly on my to do list. Had some practice with a few trips to NC, and TN last year. I also have the but butler modification. I am certain, I can achieve this iron butt 1000 or even the 1500!!
MikeWa Posted February 6, 2014 #3 Posted February 6, 2014 Congrats to you. Wear your shirt with pride. Mike
Wade 2000 Posted February 6, 2014 #4 Posted February 6, 2014 I really want to do one of these. Congratulations on your achievements
djh3 Posted February 6, 2014 #5 Posted February 6, 2014 I have been close a couple times in the last couple years to a 1000 mile trip, but the time just wasnt right. I did however run across a site long distance riders that at least I get some credit for my longer than average type rides.
VentureFar Posted February 6, 2014 Author #6 Posted February 6, 2014 If your bike doesn't "hurt" you then all that is left to doing an Iron Butt is being able to keep your attention and concentration for 17plus hours. The second one I rode at 5 over during the daylight and speed limit for the 7 hours of darkness. I had a tank bag with all my food and snacks, a liter of water at hand and a cool day - requiring less water intake and the possibility of unplanned "pit " stops. I also carried a two gallon gas can and used it to add distance without having to pull off the freeway (two times) so I could do only one gas station stop for 510 miles. Iron Butt was on my bucket list also but now that I have done it, it really turned out to be mind over matter. The second really was just a long day in the saddle. I can see doing it again "just cause". Uh oh. I sound addicted- nah I could quit anytime but I don't choose too... VentureFar...
