Ventureless Posted February 4, 2014 Author #26 Posted February 4, 2014 Glad to hear they are standing behind thier product. But what about the $$ your out for mount and balance? Do they cover that also? I mount my own and use the balance bead stuff. Not sure yet what they will cover. The guy from Avon was quick to respond and I think will help me out. Motorcycle Superstore finally contacted me last night and wanted the year, make, and model of the bike and wanted to know what pressure I was running in the tires. I have a feeling I might have some issues with MS and will be contacting the rep at Avon again. He is being copied on all emails so he can see how one of his dealers treat their customers. I pull and reinstall the wheel myself and have the local shop mount and balance the tire. So the mounting would be an hour most of my time and $25 to the dealer. I would like them to cover it, but if they don't, no biggie this time.
djh3 Posted February 4, 2014 #27 Posted February 4, 2014 MSS is probably just trying to cover the bases. Make sure you didnt put wrong size equipment on something. Besides if they know Avon is on board, I dont know what they got to loose.
Ventureless Posted February 5, 2014 Author #28 Posted February 5, 2014 Well got an email from Motorcycle Superstore. They are full of sh^t if they think I am going through their "process". Of course they want me to send it back so they can inspect it. I explained that I am not opposed to having someone look at it, but asked if they could pick a dealer in my area and have them act as a go between. Then they say that I have to pay return shipping. What a load of crap. I buy almost a $200 product from you and it is defective and I have to shell out more to get something proper. Then to top it off they say it can take 4-8 weeks. BS. I sent their email to Mark Wagoner at Avon to see if there is anyway we can handle this better. We'll see what happens. If this is the route I have to go, I will just toss the cracked tire and buy something else and be done. I figure even if I send it back I will be buying a new tire right away and having it mounted because I ride as long as their is no snow or ice and 4-8 weeks doesn't cut it. And if I just end up tossing it, I will never buy from MS again and I certainly won't buy another Avon. They are also not happy that I have been contacting Avon directly along with them. I figure if things went sour, at least Avon could see how the companies selling their product conduct their customer service. I know that if someone was selling my product, I would want them to remedy the situation quickly and easily even if I was losing a little cash. That is just good customer service and apparently MS does not understand that. Sorry for the rant. I am kind of worked up.
Barrycuda Posted February 6, 2014 #29 Posted February 6, 2014 I have been lucky I guess... My last set were avons, 5 years and no issues, according to P.O. These new wheels are also Avon venom and no issues at 3300 miles so far. One tire was bad when ordered, but the guys at. Barney of Brooksville, specifically Damien, he is on top of those. IMO, if you were set on replacing manufacturers, I would suggest the Michelin commander II. The originals were excellent and nothing but good things so far on the II...
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 6, 2014 #30 Posted February 6, 2014 Bee: I have read many of your posts and have lots of respect for your business IQ...but... I NEVER order tires over the internet. If its a tire my dealer does not stock, I have them order it and in a few days I arrive and have them mount it. Sure, it costs more. But in the event of a failing tire, I got backup. The dealer ordered it, mounted it, and in some cases, test rides it. They tell me to be careful the first 100 miles, (duh) and I ride away. Occasionally things have happened, and I have to bring the tire back because of some error, either wrong size, wrong direction on the mount, or some other issue, but the dealer ALWAYS has made it good...on the spot. Credit issued, replacement, or whatever. In my estimation, motorcycle tires are nothing to mess around with, and I know you have made a sincere effort to get a good tire at a fair price, but sometimes the higher price to bring in a middleman is worth it. And sending the local dealers your business if possible is not a bad thing.... Just my 2 cents.
djh3 Posted February 6, 2014 #31 Posted February 6, 2014 Where I live I dont have a "dealer" per-say. We have a couple of independent shops, but they seem to cater to the Milwakee crowd. I supose I could have them order it and mount or at least ask them too and see what they say. I guess I have been lucky. I have bought at least 3 or 4 seta of tires from MSS and not had any issues with anything. I did have to do a little hoop jumping to get them to match a tire price one time though, but they did.
