I have also taken one apart with a couple hundred convicts watching because Kill switch was turned off......

 

I can sure understand that one buddy,, I have a hard time focusing when folks are breathing over my shoulder too,,, especially when their trying to pick up tips on how to steal bikes :no-no-no::no-no-no:

As for starting it Dan...some of the others were right. I always just pulled the choke fully out. Didn't ever touch the throttle. Started it and let it run until it was at a high idle...push it in about half way and let it continue to warm up. Never had any trouble starting it even after sitting through the winter.

even if you think it is ok.... the engine is cold, the oil is cold. I have had troubel with mine is I try and start it cold with no charger on the battery... charge it, full choke and no throttle. it will couch and fire a few times but it will start.

Short answer: No, but I would give the battery a fully charge and try again before worrying about anything else. :thumbsup2:

 

For what it is worth, within the last couple of weeks I have had temps in the teens when I started my bike and sometimes it fires on the first shot and sometimes it turns over a few times before firing up. It does crank a little slower after sitting out in the cold (the parking lot I use when riding to work is fully exposed to the elements and the slow cranks were when it was ~10-15 degrees out and had been sitting there for 10+ hours).

Yes, when it is this cold I have trouble starting it if I forget to pull the choke or turn the fuel on but I do not usually have to use the choke (or give ANY throttle) when temps are above ~35 or so, unless it is really humid out (say 30% or higher). As for warm up time, I usually get geared up, throw my leg over, start the bike and within the 5-15 seconds it may take for me to get positioned and what not, it is good to go. The exception to that time frame is when it is below about 25 -- I usually let the bike at a high idle for quite a bit longer to let everything warm up a bit more before puttering off.

 

Now my truck on the other hand, sits in my driveway except for once every couple of weeks I start it up and go for a little drive just to keep the juices flowing -- or drive it to the airport where it sits even more -- and that puppy cranks really slow sometimes...

Some where in the thread here somebody said something about fuel pump froze up. That could be plausable with the ethonol fuel and the way it collects water. I woundr if by chance it got some water in fule and then it settled in the fuel pump? Maybe set a trouble lamp in the area for a little heat and try it in a few hours? Its hard to figure. I read this and walked out in my shorts and flip flops and mine fired right up with very little trouble. :confused24:

Well I can at least have the satisfaction of having helped someone out on this board after selflesly taking and using all of the advice given......:backinmyday: ...over the past months....boy was this the best $12 I ever spent:thumbsup2:

Yeah if you mess with the throttle it don't like it. Very easy to flood when first cranking.

I had the same problem 2 weeks age I thought I flooded it so I decided to change the plugs so I changed the 2 back ones and went to remove the gas tank so i went to shut fuel off and I notice that it was already off so I turned it on and what a surprise it started without killing the battery again . then I looked around to see if anyone was watching :)
