Bert2006 Posted January 31, 2014 #1 Posted January 31, 2014 Got to sit on a 2014 Harley-Davidson CVO Limited today and I could not beleive how light and balanced it felt compared to my 2nd gen. It was effortless to keep balanced. Will certainly go and take a second look and test ride once riding weather comes back around but they are asking 46k dollars for this thing so small chance of ever getting one.
shmily Posted February 1, 2014 #2 Posted February 1, 2014 Dude, must be the theme for the day. I heard about the new Limited's and decided to stop by and check one out. Holy cow...what a beautiful machine. Water cooled and 105 foot pounds of torque. I haven't ridden one, but it seems Harley fixed all that ailed the former bike. The electronics in the fairing (to include the GPS) are off the charts. I have to say, I never gave these bikes a second look, but the 14's are a game changer!
Bert2006 Posted February 1, 2014 Author #3 Posted February 1, 2014 :sign yeah that: but its sooo expensive. What kind of price do they have on it in your area?
djh3 Posted February 1, 2014 #4 Posted February 1, 2014 Maybe the reason they call it a limited is because its limited who can afford one.
wrenchrob Posted February 1, 2014 #6 Posted February 1, 2014 I was just on the Harley manufacturers site and I can't believe how many models they have
djh3 Posted February 1, 2014 #7 Posted February 1, 2014 I dont know. Alot of models per say but whats the difference really. I have allways had a hard time telling the difference between a electra glide, ultra glide u-glide CVO or whatever. Paint and pertties? It will be interesting how the "water cooling" goes over. The HD hard and true were not real receptive when the v-rod came out. To me thats the motor they should be trying to make a touring bike around.
SilvrT Posted February 1, 2014 #8 Posted February 1, 2014 Current pricing for 2014 Electra Glide Ultra Limited up here is between 31,500 and 33,110 excluding taxes, etc. http://www.barneshd.com/default.asp?page=xNewInventoryDetail&id=509952&p=1&s=Year&d=D I really LOVE the changes they've made to these bikes. Had I not just bought this Victory last May, I think I'd be getting a new Harley this spring. As for them feeling light compared to an RSV ... heck, every bike out there feels lighter than an RSV
Solodadof2 Posted February 1, 2014 #9 Posted February 1, 2014 Harley has some nice bike and if I had freebird's money I might own one too! heck ya you feel good if I went and sat on $32,000 today, I would feel good too. It's really about what a guy can afford and wants! My next horse is going to be an Indian Chieftain. haven't even seen one to put my hand on it yet, but for as long as I can remember I have loved those big sweeping fenders..
cowpuc Posted February 1, 2014 #10 Posted February 1, 2014 Went and test rode em late last fall. It was amazing the difference the water cooled heads made, its was also pretty neat how well the Motor Company had hidden the whole water cooling system.. That rear cylinder hot leg was a LOT better.. Also, I have a hunch that the valve timing, EFI settings are also different (maybe cause now they dont have to run em so lean to get by regs now ) cause the one we rode ran better than any of the other non water cooled bikes did.. Funny thing happened, we left the parking lot, this voice comes on and says - turn right at next intersection - so I did (thinking the folks at Sandys Harley in Fremont had programmed the factory gps for the demo route).. Few miles later it says - turn left - so I did.. Few miles later - thing says turn right - so I did.. About 15 minutes later the wife says "this is the longest and best demo ride we have ever had.. Another twenty minutes we come to a gravel road and the unit says,, turn left (down gravel road).. I stopped, looked at the wife, looked at the gps and said to it - "tell ya what, I will gladly go down that gravel road but before I do I wanna run home and get our tent ).. It didnt answer me back so I turned around and went back from whence we came.. Got back to the shop and the sales guys were TICKED.. I explained to them what happened and then they all started laughing.. Finally one of them looked at me and said "dont feel bad (I didnt - I was riding a 40k bike ), we tried and tried to figure out how to operate that stupid GPS system and nobody here could:rotf::rotf::rotf: Have since learned that the new water cooled bikes have been having problems with purging the coolant (burping on floor)... Maybe caused from to small of an area being cooled (only cools the exhaust valves).. Dont know if they have they ironed out or not... GORGEOUS bikes though, lots and lots of $$$ but still gorgeous!! Puc
bj66 Posted February 1, 2014 #11 Posted February 1, 2014 When it says CVO look out, you have to go on the old game show " Press Your Luck". You are gonna need Big Bucks, Big Bucks, and no whammies......... I ride a HD, and its pretty evident that I will never run a CVO. Best of everything, special paint, big motor, all chromed out, you name it, its got it..........Price reflects it too!
etcswjoe Posted February 1, 2014 #12 Posted February 1, 2014 I was expecting something totally different from the way I read the tittle of this thread. I will ask have they improved the room for the passenger? All the Harleys we looked at last year were really cramped?
Lone Eagle Posted February 1, 2014 #13 Posted February 1, 2014 Test rode the Limited - tons of room for the passenger. Also heard that comment from many of the other couples during the day that test rode those bikes at the recent IMS show here. Even if you are not in the market for a new bike, if you get the chance, test ride one for fun.
Freebird Posted February 1, 2014 #14 Posted February 1, 2014 If you had Freebird's money, you would NOT be buying a $40,000.00 bike I can promise you that. My 2013 Road Glide didn't cost me much more than the suggested retail of a new RSV.

My 2013 Road Glide didn't cost me much more than the suggested retail of a new RSV. Don thats a very good point.. I have watched for years as the Metric bikes keep creaping closer and closer to HD in new sale prices (NOT TALKIN CVO's HERE), almost like they have about evened out.. I have also noticed that the Metrics usually have a steeper depreciation point... Hmmmm.. It also seems that HD has the best Nation Wide dealer support (IMHO)... They have come a longgggg ways since the shovel head/AMF days.. It would be interesting to hear some comparisons on parts costs these days,, brake pads - clutch plates - head light bulbs - tune up parts - oil filters..... Back when HD was my regular cross country bike (78 Low Rider) a Clutch Cable cost 47 bucks to replace, throttle cable was 60.. Same cables for a 750 Honda were about `15 bucks a piece... Wonder how close to even parts have come.. Anyway,, good point,, opppss, hi jacked another one,, SORRY BERT!!!
Bert2006 Posted February 2, 2014 Author #17 Posted February 2, 2014 Actually no worry Puc, you raise a good question and keep the discussion going so no hijacking going on here:322:
bj66 Posted February 2, 2014 #18 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I did replace handlebars with a different style of HD bar. Cost me 80 bucks for the bar. I thought that was pretty good for a HD bar. I run aftermarket oil and filters in my Road Glide. Oil is synthetic, so its more expensive than the Rotella, but thats a given. I tried S&S brand this time and so far I like it. My Road Glide (2011) wasnt a 40,000 dollar bike either. The Road Glide Custom was 1/2 that, and i added some chrome too. Luggage rack system is spendy (quick release). But all chrome add ons are, aftermarket included. If I remember right I had 1500 bucks of add ons when I bought mine. 800 was luggage rack/passenger backrest, plus I changed windshields, added a drivers backrest, matching highway pegs, and handgrips. Also changed bars, I think I drove it out the door at about 22,500 set up like I wanted. Not much dicker in sticker price. I bought new model year (2011) in jan of 2011. It was a one year color for the RG too. Last spring I changed to a HD "Hammock" touring seat. Cost just shy of 500 bucks. I was looking at an aftermarket seat that cost about 700. If you pay attention, you can find some competitive parts. If you dont, or want some HD accessories that really stand out, you can pay through the nose....... MSRP on the RG didnt change from 2011 to 2012. I think 2013 was pretty close to same too. No RG in 2014, rumor is it will be back in 2015 with a design change. Expect a price jump when it comes back........Dont have to change MSRP when everybody does add ons. Change the parts prices..... Sorry about the hijack of the hijack. Thought I could give Puc some numbers. Edited February 2, 2014 by bj66
bj66 Posted February 2, 2014 #19 Posted February 2, 2014 The MSRP was for a 2011 with a 103 motor. You also had the 96 inch option. The 96 option wouldve taken sticker down easily over 1000, probly close to 1500. I'm glad I chose the 103 option. Money well spent as far as I am concerned. If I sell it the 103 will help. Dont know if I would get more money for it. But it will sell much faster with the 103 than a 96. So this is a hijack of the hijacked hijack.....Sorry, but more numbers for Puc........
