The first year of production was for model year 1978. Further, there was no 1979 Z1R in the US. The 1980 Z1R was substantially different from the 1978. Bigger tank, black paint, different exhaust, different engine. Like I said, I had a 1978: VIN KZT00D000735. Needed money, so I sold it to a kid who promptly rear ended a car and totaled it.

I know the Germans got what looked like a US 1978 Z1R, but it was called a 1979.
