There is nothing like winter time for getting a new bike,,, warms the heart and breaks the boredom..

Anyway, guy has this beater of an 87 1st Gen Royale in his shed, 68k.. Got a bunch of switches on the left hand lower fairing - says when he got it the starter switch was acting up so he bypassed it with a switch, than the blinker switch went so he bypassed it, then the lights so he bypassed it,,, you get the point.. He stopped riding it cause he couldnt keep up with the electrical nightmare..:rotf:

Got all the goodies with it, CB - Radio - Air Controls in a box....

Didnt get to hear it run, may be just another parts bike BUT he said it ran fine last time he rode it a few years ago... Hopefully it does, it would be really cool to have one with second gear in it again,, not that I really minded covering all those miles short shifting but still,,,, it was kinda difficult beating those 2nd Gens without second :stirthepot: (gotta be careful here, Karma's a terrible thing)..

Has some interesting looking down turned pipes on it, dont think they are stock,, be cool if they are non baffled so YammerDan can still find me when I hit the delete button and his new 2nd Gen and Skid disappear in the mirror :rotf::rotf:(gotta be careful again here, Karma's a terrible thing and brother Dan may pull old Blue out of his pocket).. :no-no-no:

So why Blizzard you ask,,,, (see pics).... The shot of the snow on the rail of the deck is just from today - over 10 inches in less than 8 hours!! :depressed:

If you do decide to part it out let me know as I could use a good left saddle bag lid in blond.

I am going to rebuild it and ask questions as I go.:whistling:

Got ur back buddy,,, and if we cant figure it out there are geniuses on here who can!!!:backinmyday:

I wanna come over there and drool in your garage for a while.

Anytime Stealth,,, kinda cold out there right now BUT summers coming,,,, I HOPE!!!:301:

It looks like you've got a project there.

I have those downturned cans on my 93 and I thought it was stock, but what do I know? :confused24:

You would know wayyyyyy more than I do Sys,, this is my 1st Mk2 - got a pretty good handle on the 1st 1st Gens (owned many) but this is the newest Venture I have ever owned... I did cheat though, one of the guys down at Vogel (who was that you guys?? - nice guy - THANKS!!) let me play on his 2nd 1st Gen a little but I didnt get a good look at the pipes,,,, they just dont look like something Yamaha would hang on a bike - to narrow, not enough excess weight for OEM,, but I am with ya, what do I know...:confused24:

Congrats!! Those look like Jardine pipes. You decide (which I doubt) you don't like them I got some stock ones to trade...:whistling:

It won't work Dan :no-no-no:,,, gonna take a whole lot more than those pipes to wake up that new Gen2 :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

If it comes to that YOU are numeral uno on the list big guy!!!! :thumbsup2:

Count on it Pegasus!!:thumbsup2:

You will come to hate those bags. So much more trouble than the old ones. Little more room but not worth it I didn't think.

Interesting point Dan, I have had lots and lots of folks tell me how much they like the xtra space on the MK2, I always really liked the easy removing (could literally have the rear tire off in less than 20 minutes) fold outs - only had one time that a bagged popped open (during a downpour know less) cause my kid forgot to lock it.. Just gazing at the MK2 I can see where lost pop a top could easily happen... Also looks like its wrench time for removal...

Kinda like the looks of the more slender saddles on the MK1 too...

Yea,, good point..:backinmyday:

Nice new toy Puc, we are looking for another bike here as well (my daughter wants to get a bigger bike) and it sure does make it easier to deal with the winter.

I had an 86 Venture, never had a MkI, but I loved the bags on my 86, knida wish I had the same ones on my 2nd Gen, they seem smaller then the ones on the 86. As for being able to just take the bags of the MkI, yes that is a bonus. Kinda the same as I can take the bags off my 2nd Gen with just a few bolts for cleaning and service.

Enjoy your toy and have a blast bringing her back to life.

That's a 1st Gen MK2 not a MK1. They had those down turned exhaust ends. At least mine did. Good luck with the project.

I agree with Yammer, those look just like Jardines to me, they are the same diameter through out, unlike stock with turndowns. I have had Jardines on my 83 for about 16 years and they still look good even though they are getting a bit louder or I am getting a bit older.:backinmyday: When at WOT, they sound like a small block Chevy with glasspaks. :cool10:

As far as MKI vs MKII bags, there is no doubt that MKII is a lot better for packing, but to me, the MKI bags go much better with it being a little more of a sport touring bike. The MKII bags and bigger trunk made the 1st gen look like it has a lot bigger butt.

I think that for what you do in your riding style, an MKII would be a good bike for you. It should have a little more bottom end torque and you should be able to pack the kitchen sink now.:whistling:

I may be hallucinating, but I do believe that someone here sells/makes some quick disconnect tool-less fasteners for those saddlebags. Anyone else remember that?

Rick Butler I think. And there is a fix for loosing tops. glue short string from one to the other? Fix is in here somewhere. Just make sure string is tough enough and fastened securely.
