hipshot Posted March 2, 2008 #1 Posted March 2, 2008 hello all. i have searched the "tech" forums to no avail. can anyone tell me where the REAR brake reservoir FULL mark is? i don't know when "enough is enough". i have heard that overfilling, can cause rear "lockup", as the fluid heats up with use. thanks in advance. just jt
Squeeze Posted March 2, 2008 #2 Posted March 2, 2008 Shop Manual states to fill up until Fluid Level reaches the bottom of the Thread on Plughole
Freebird Posted March 2, 2008 #3 Posted March 2, 2008 That sounds like the rear end fluid. He's asking about the brake fluid. It's been a while but I seem to remember that there was a molded in mark on the reservoir.
Squeeze Posted March 2, 2008 #4 Posted March 2, 2008 Don, hope you do NOT fill the final Drive with Fluid ? :bighug: I was talking about rear brake Fluid. Filling the Pumpkin would be the same Procedure for '84 to recent, but i use Gear Oil.
Guest Bigin Posted March 2, 2008 #5 Posted March 2, 2008 I also run mine just below bottom of the thread hole. All the hours spent bleeding this system, cant recall where I got that level, but no problems from being overfilled and I do get them hot.
hipshot Posted March 2, 2008 Author #6 Posted March 2, 2008 thank you all very much. i had to go "extract" about 1/2 ounce! lol just jt
Freebird Posted March 2, 2008 #7 Posted March 2, 2008 I need to pay more attention to what bikes we are talking about. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what you meant. Then I just realized that we are talking first gen. Second gen has a plastic reservoir with markings.
Squeeze Posted March 2, 2008 #8 Posted March 2, 2008 Don, please never mind. With all what you and your Family is going through at the Moment, no wonder that you miss something that insignificant. Not said that the Fluid Level is insignificant for Hipshot, but we got his back. All the Best for you and your Family.
Condor Posted March 2, 2008 #9 Posted March 2, 2008 thank you all very much. i had to go "extract" about 1/2 ounce! lol just jt There's also a collapsible rubber gasket like on the front masters that will become 'unpleated' from use. It's a PITA but it helps to get it folded back up. Removing the reserve and top is about the only way to get the thing totally compressed again. I fudge and use a stiff piece of plastic rod to get it 'sorta' up. Not perfect, but it helps.
