86-93 lower fork tubes and internal parts, there were at least three changes to the lower lock parts. Upper tubes should interchange.

 

Are the brakes you want to use the radial style? These are 1 piece caliper body. If they are, it will take a set of custom machined adapters.

 

R1's or 2nd gen VMax 6 pot calipers need 298 mm dia x 5mm rotors. I am using a set from an 2003 FJR, floating rotors.

 

Also will need a front master from an 86-93 Venture.

 

Possibly will need new brake lines, I don't know if stock lines will reach new calipers. I had a set of S.S. lines made. Delinking brakes would be a real good idea at same time.

 

Pictures attached of what I did to Tweety. These border on too much brakes. Two fingers on lever is more than sufficient. The front brakes on Tweety are main reason I am reluctant to let anyone ride it. They can hurt you.

 

1st picture is of set of 2011 R1 6 pot radial calipers that are on Tweety.

 

2nd picture is of a set of 1996 YZF750 6 pot standard 2 piece calipers. These will bolt onto a set of 86-93 forks. Very good brakes. These are going on RSV Hybrid.

 

3rd picture is of R1 brakes on Tweety.

 

Last pictures are of adapter bracket I designed to mount calipers.

ok thanks for the info as there are no ventures to get parts off hear may forgo the brake upgrade as the postage on a set of 86 botom fork legs would be like 150 od dolers ... thanks for the heads up gary ...ps is there aney calipers that will bolt on to the 83 and give beter performance than the stok ones ? glad i arsked ferst allmost bort a set of r1 calipers .

got 2nd fixt geting them engins in and out is fun NOT lol but all good now

The MK1 Venture brakes sure are anemic to say the least! If you can change out the front forks then use calipers from an R1 or R6 for an improvement. At bare minimum replace your rubber brake lines with stainless steel lines. The rubber lines expand outward when you brake causing loss of braking. The SS flex lines do not expand anywhere near as much giving you more power to the caliper.

 

With a little modification you can change your rear brake to a MK2 brake but you also have to change rotors and use the MK2 caliper mount. You have to design a sleeve on the caliper mount to make it work properly with the swingarm. Speaking of rotors, if you change out the front end you also have to use MK2 rotors and they are getting scarce...
