SilvrT Posted January 14, 2014 #1 Posted January 14, 2014 It seems of late that this site has really slowed down. Opening a thread, replying, submitting ... all seems to take much longer than it used to as of a few months ago (guessing here). I'm also a member on a Victory forum .... that forum is slow compared to what this forum WAS. Now, it seems the opposite. Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing this?
etcswjoe Posted January 14, 2014 #2 Posted January 14, 2014 I have not seen a change in speed myself.
bongobobny Posted January 14, 2014 #3 Posted January 14, 2014 Hmmm, maybe time for a virus scan and adware scan on your computer along with computer software cleanup?? Things are fine here. Whenever my computer slows down it's time for a cleaning and organizing of the software. Maybe time for a memory hardware update? What OS are you using??
SilvrT Posted January 14, 2014 Author #4 Posted January 14, 2014 Hmmm, maybe time for a virus scan and adware scan on your computer along with computer software cleanup?? Things are fine here. Whenever my computer slows down it's time for a cleaning and organizing of the software. Maybe time for a memory hardware update? What OS are you using?? I'm noticing this at work and it happens on more than one computer. One system is Win7, the other is WinXP. We work in a network that is protected behind a firewall and 2 different Enterprise-class virus / adware / etc scanning software. One catches things before they enter and the other catches them IF they enter. As for home, I can't recall as I don't spend much time on the puter at home anymore. I will test it this evening. Nothing has changed in the environment here at work.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted January 14, 2014 #5 Posted January 14, 2014 Take your laptop and stop at a wifi cafe or McDonalds or wherever, and access a public WiFi and log on to VR that way. Could just be the servers involved. It's working fine here for me. Every now and then I see a slowdown in net traffic in general...but most of the time it seems more or less normal.
SilvrT Posted January 14, 2014 Author #6 Posted January 14, 2014 Guys, appreciate the suggestions, etc but that's not what I need to know after all, it's my business to know these things. Just needed to know if I was the only one or if others are experiencing this. I will dig deeper.

pmelah Posted January 14, 2014 #8 Posted January 14, 2014 i have noticed the slow down as well but i think its the servers im on at mcdonalds and at the ex-wifes house it runs smooth and fast and those 2 i know are on dsl where as the dennys its on cable and it is slow
pmelah Posted January 14, 2014 #9 Posted January 14, 2014 i take that back its now moving real fast here at dennys/pilot/flying j truck stop
bongobobny Posted January 14, 2014 #10 Posted January 14, 2014 Do a disc cleanup and defrag. Sometimes just rebooting the computer helps, especially in a work environment where computers sometimes never get turned off...
Flyinfool Posted January 14, 2014 #11 Posted January 14, 2014 So to answer the original question, It appears that you are alone. Every thing that I do at work on our T1 line with all of its front end protection is way slower than anything I do at home on my 12 year old laptop with XP Pro and DSL.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted January 14, 2014 #12 Posted January 14, 2014 It is just you Rick. I am on XP and 7 on my equipment and although I have picked up a malware on my XP the site seems ok.
SilvrT Posted January 14, 2014 Author #13 Posted January 14, 2014 It is just you Rick. I am on XP and 7 on my equipment and although I have picked up a malware on my XP the site seems ok. It could be just here at work; however, I would not have thought anything about it if all the other sites I regularly visit were also slower than usual ... but none of them are, just this one.

Every thing that I do at work on our T1 line with all of its front end protection is way slower than anything I do at home on my 12 year old laptop with XP Pro and DSL. Everything at home (internet related) is faster than here at work also but I'm comparing now to a couple months back here at work. Guess I'll dig into my firewall and AV software to see if something there is picking on this site. I do recall now that I upgraded the firmware on the firewall so maybe that has something to do with it.
99silver Posted January 15, 2014 #15 Posted January 15, 2014 Rick, what are you feeding your carrier pigeons ?????

SilvrT Posted January 15, 2014 Author #19 Posted January 15, 2014 Rick, what are you feeding your carrier pigeons ????? Parts off a 1st gen
SilvrT Posted January 15, 2014 Author #20 Posted January 15, 2014 OK, at home now ... fwiw, no speed loss here. Running Linux Mint 15 and Firefox with not much of a firewall, no A/V or Malware protection (don't need it).
saddlebum Posted January 15, 2014 #21 Posted January 15, 2014 Dang... took y'all long enuf didn't it? (yup....SLOW) You obviously haven't been to a meet and eat recently or you would realize we are not slow at all

LilBeaver Posted January 15, 2014 #23 Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) [skip to the end for the conclusion if you prefer] For what it is worth, within the last several months -- maybe longer -- I have noticed intermittent but very large variations in time to load certain aspects of this forum -- just as you have described [time to load 'post reply page', load a thread, open a PM, etc etc -- from 'time of click' to the time that the page is completely loaded]. I know for certain that it is NOT just my machine or local connection as I have noticed the same behavior [that is 'behaviour' for you folks that use that fake English ] from my 1GB/s connection at my office -- from a variety of computers (at least two different windows desktop with ie, firefox, chrome or opera), 3 different Scientific Linux boxes (one of which is a reasonably high powered server) and my personal laptop. The connection at my office is a direct 4GB/s pipe out. I observe the same odd load times from my home connection (notably slower than my office connection) and from two national labs that I have been worked from in the last 6 months. So, I concluded it had to do with the actual host of this forum -- be it related to the software package that manages ads, the individual pages, or whatever. Conclusion: Smart @$$ comments aside, I do not believe that it is just you. Cheers Edited January 16, 2014 by LilBeaver Did not not not not not not not not not like the multiple negatives as they confused the point :-P
