Would there be any reason why I couldn't make an adaptor to charge the battery on my 06 through the 12v accessory port? (cigarettte lighter) This would be a 2 amp charge.

It's crammed in my (heated) 10 x 14 pump shed, along with my first gen, and I don't have much room to work on it, but, since I got it at the end of the season last year, I never took the time to put a float charger hookup on it and when I tried to start it today, the battery didn't have enough ummph to get 'er goin.

I want to put a charge on it, but was looking for an easy way to do it.:confused24:

Would be simpler to install a proper Battery Tender and have a safe solution. I put the Jr model on mine, simple 2 wire hook-up to the battery posts. Cost about $50. :backinmyday:

I wouldn't use the accessories jack to charge the battery. wires are kinda small...

A battery tender brand charger comes with a pigtail that you leave on, only costs $25 at interstate batteries.

Not saying you couldn't get away with it below 2 amps but wouldn't want someone reading this to assume they could charge their bike thur the aux port... IMHO its dangerous to do so

especially at a higher amperage

I'll see if I can pull the seat and give it a proper charge, and mount the tender pigtail on the battery tomorrow.

I went in the shed for another reason, and thought I'd try to start her up and let her run for a bit.

When she wouldn't start, I just happened to think of the aux power port, and thought it may be an easy way to put a slow charger on it.

I still have about 4 or 5 extra tenders in a box. I put them on everything that sits, but never got around to putting one on the RSV.

Thanks for the input.:cool10:

Would have to be a "hot" all the time port to start with. I know all mine are wired for "key on" I now I have seen some of those jumper cable gimike things you can suposedly jump start your car from cig lighter to cig lighter but I dont know if I would trust that as a soulution.

Well, if you changed the aux port to be hot all the time instead of switched, the thing still has a fuse on it, so if you did start to charge at a higher current rate the fuse would blow anyway...

As long as your cigarette socket is hot all the time, this should work fine, assuming the charge rate is kept below a few amps.

Remember tho, that the plug is now 'hot' if the charger is plugged in....and could get kinda 'sparky' if dragged across...oh I dunno...a metal gas can?

:whistling:

Be careful.
