i'll try again as it seems no one understood what i was asking.

on a 96 standard the igntion switch is located on the right side under the seat. having pulled the seat, the battery, the battery cover, and the lower plastic sheild where the passenger foot peg mounts, it is still a bear to get at, what am I missing or is this really that poorly designed?

Second, where can i get a new switch? can I use my old tumbler?

third is it the switch that is the problem or the tumbler? sometimes the key won't turn or release from the switch other times it seems that the key turns but is not doing anything inside (turns to easy)

P.S. this is my old bike which I gifted to my son when i got my 07RSV

Yes it is that poorly designed, unfornuatley the place they relocated the switch to on later models was just as bad, on the frame right behind the radiator, where they got fried from the heat.

I am not sure about a "NEW" switch, the only place is probably a dealer if you need new. If you just want another, then Ebay some place like Pinwall, they generally have a good selection of such things. Should be able to change the tumblers out, had it done by the dealer under warrenty on my 98 Tour Cllassic when the ignition switch went out.

That is not clear, but I would suspect it is the mechanics inside the tumbler and the drive rod that engages into the electrical switch, could be something came loose or fell out. You will need to get it out and dissassemble it to know.
