Kirby Posted January 10, 2014 #1 Posted January 10, 2014 Has anyone on here ever tried to put Hippo Hands on an RSV? If so, did they do the job of keeping your hands warm in cold weather?
cowpuc Posted January 10, 2014 #2 Posted January 10, 2014 Years ago I was traveling out west with my daughter and had forgotten my Hippo's, got really cold and ended up mounting a pair of plastic milk jugs over my bars (cut em open so my hands would fit inside) and it worked great, not nearly as good as Hippo's though.. Pair of heated grips inside those Hippo's are really nice!!! By the way, the cheap dirt bike/snowmobile heated bar wraps (fit nicely under stock grips) make excellent cheap heated grips - think I paid under 25 bucks for the last set I bought..
hillrider Posted January 10, 2014 #3 Posted January 10, 2014 They work great. Only issue is remembering where the controls are. Pair I had required a little modification with scissors and velcro to fit the throttle.
Rick Butler Posted January 10, 2014 #4 Posted January 10, 2014 Kirby, They work great....to the point you can ride with a pair of summer gloves underneath. And even better is to have a set of heated grips inside of them. The ones I got a few years ago were called "Polar Hands" and sold by Tucker Rocky, but I don't see therm now. They had velcro slits top and bottom which allowed you to slip them around mirrors and controls and hold them on with a velcro strap. But I found them on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Polar-Hands-Handlebar-Mittens-Hand-Sheilds-New-/310826326456?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Gloves_Mittens&hash=item485eb159b8#ht_4578wt_867 But it appears someone else is now manufacturing the old "Hippo Hands" created by Craig Vetter in a more current style, which looks good and will also slip arount mirror stalks: http://www.hippohands.com/HHDUALPURPOSE.htm The only downside I have found is that the controls on the bars are now hidden, so you need to know where everything is by feel. And sometimes the slight pressure against the clutch and brake lever will cut your cruise control off. Check them out, they are definitely worth it if you need to ride in the extreme cold. Hope this helps, Rick Has anyone on here ever tried to put Hippo Hands on an RSV? If so, did they do the job of keeping your hands warm in cold weather?
Kirby Posted January 10, 2014 Author #5 Posted January 10, 2014 Hey thanks guys. I've tried alot of different combinations of gloves but nothing seems to take care of the finger tips. Most any of the gloves that I have bought over the years will take care of the palm and back of the hand but nothing has kept me comfortable at the tips of my fingers. Just been pondering if the hippo hands would even work with the audio control unit on the RSV.
