N3FOL Posted January 7, 2014 #1 Posted January 7, 2014 CNN says it is even too cold for polar bears. 😛 A co-worker said she couldn't open her car doors this morning. It was frozen shut. Even with Gerbings around your entire body, the windchill is still unbearable. No way I'll ride in this temperature. Be careful out there, if you plan to be outside.
Yammer Dan Posted January 7, 2014 #2 Posted January 7, 2014 Took a little trip out on the deck in my Fruit of the Looms. Its a little chilly....-4 degrees and going down.
uncledj Posted January 7, 2014 #3 Posted January 7, 2014 Tell me about it. I'm the guy that has to put up a ladder, go up on the roof and get the heat working. I told 'em last night that I wasn't going out today except for service calls. Too cold to do routine maintenance. This is my chosen profession.
CaptainJoe Posted January 7, 2014 #4 Posted January 7, 2014 Was out yesterday playing on the four wheeler doing some controlled drifting moves. Had to go back in the house for goggles, clava, helmet and some warmer gloves... that cold went right thru my double layer leather gloves. Be careful out there... this is frostbite weather... Remember: No exposed skin...
Squidley Posted January 7, 2014 #5 Posted January 7, 2014 I know y'all laugh up north, but it hasn't been this cold in Houston in 3 years. 17 degrees right now at the house, y'all be careful up there, I know what it's like in weather like you folks are dealing with.
mini-muffin Posted January 7, 2014 #6 Posted January 7, 2014 Heck around here they are breaking records that were over 130 years old. It's a bit nippy to say the least. :cold: Margaret

KeithR Posted January 7, 2014 #15 Posted January 7, 2014 "The bitter cold temperatures experienced over much of North America over the last week or so has been caused by a southern shift in the polar vortex, pulling Arctic air down over the continent. According to NASA, the polar vortex is a persistent large area of low pressure, found typically over both the north and south poles. As of yesterday, the polar vortex had pushed down over the north-central US, bringing with it frigid temperatures to areas as far south as Georgia and Alabama." We have been having some severe weather here....record braking lows last week...power problems....raining and 10c deg today Keith
crazygaucho Posted January 7, 2014 #16 Posted January 7, 2014 Something it's up with the weather we are having record lows in northern hemisphere and records highs in the southern hemisphere at least in south America (Argentina- Uruguay)

Sylvester Posted January 7, 2014 #18 Posted January 7, 2014 No water for us right now. Had to go out in -10 to plug in a heater to thaw the pipe out... None for us in NC this morning either. 5 degrees at my farm. Had to put a 500 watt halogen work light in the well house to thaw it out. I am leaving it in tonight and will energize it around 10 pm. That should control the 8 degrees in the morning.

BradT Posted January 8, 2014 #20 Posted January 8, 2014 Had a nasty ride yesterday as well. 3 hours to go 1.25 hours drive. Got stuck in a snow drift and I was in the middle of the road, haha. Stopped for a picture as there was very few cars on the road but quite a few in the ditches. Does it look cold..... Brad

N3FOL Posted January 8, 2014 Author #24 Posted January 8, 2014 I read in the news about a water main break in Baltimore. A car is parked next to the water main break 2 days ago. To make the long story short, water sprayed on top of the car and there was at least... At least 5 inches of ice around the car. OMG! ❄️👀
