Prairiehammer Posted January 3, 2014 #6 Posted January 3, 2014 But given that there are probably few frozen lakes in West Virginia, I suggest that this video is actually of Black Owl or Bubber.

Venturous Randy Posted January 7, 2014 Author #8 Posted January 7, 2014 But given that there are probably few frozen lakes in West Virginia, I suggest that this video is actually of Black Owl or Bubber. I suspect it looks a lot like this video around Yammer's house right now. RandyA
Yammer Dan Posted January 7, 2014 #9 Posted January 7, 2014 I just took a trip out on the deck in my briefs to check Randy. 4 degrees BELOW 0. Its a little chilly. Next time I'm putting shoes on!!
Venturous Randy Posted January 7, 2014 Author #10 Posted January 7, 2014 Dan, it is zero here and I am wide awake. I should go snuggle down and get some sleep. I have water running in the bathroom sink that I hope keeps it from freezing. Never had it freeze before in the 13 years I have been here, but it is cold. RandyA
Yammer Dan Posted January 7, 2014 #11 Posted January 7, 2014 We had ours running last night. It has never froze but I wasn't taking a chance. I have them covered pretty good. I'm hoping everything had enough anti-freeze. got to 6 below last night and I need to go about 60 miles today.

I'm hoping everything had enough anti-freeze. got to 6 below last night and I need to go about 60 miles today. OK, I have to ask. For you southerners, do you mix anti freeze at the rate recommended on the bottle of 50/50, or do you skimp figuring that it will never get that cold? 50/50 mix should be good for at least -30? Same with keeping the faucets running, are your furnaces not able to keep up and the whole house is that cold? The standard for sizing a furnace here is that it must be able to hold 70 when the outside temp is -10. Freezing pipes has never been an issue in my 125 year old house that has little to no insulation and even still has its original single pane windows. I'm just curious if the threat of freezing things is real or just perceived. I know that houses down south are not built nearly as well as houses up here.
Bubber Posted January 7, 2014 #13 Posted January 7, 2014 But given that there are probably few frozen lakes in West Virginia, I suggest that this video is actually of Black Owl or Bubber. I would like to say that it is definitely Black Owl but I have never heard of him wearing a tie before. I also heard he does like sheep.... for what ever reason. :rotf:

Water connections outside must have a heat tape to 20"in WV, (3' in PA) below dirt level. Hoses must be discnnected from from the frost free faucets(otherwise they won't be frost free for long). If you do it right, no need to leave water running. For about $5 you can buy an anti freeze tester and it will show you when your mixture will freeze. Guessing on this, could get very, very expensive.
Yammer Dan Posted January 7, 2014 #15 Posted January 7, 2014 I got tester somewhere Joe...and lines shouldn't freeze but you always wonder about things when it gets chilly.
CaptainJoe Posted January 7, 2014 #16 Posted January 7, 2014 I got tester somewhere Joe...and lines shouldn't freeze but you always wonder about things when it gets chilly. I just about forgot i was cleaning the radiator to my Kut Kwick and it had pure water in it... luckily I caugh it and put 50/50 in. JUst be careful... Perstone is selling premix now so you don't want to add waterto that. I check with tester, every time i add antifreeze to the radiator.
