Taking a shot here but.....

Im looking for a cheap used lap top with windows 7 or 8 installed primarily to use an SCT tuner for my car. Anyone here have one they may want to part with cheap? Or maybe trade for some 2nd gen parts like a stock final drive/RoadKing mufflers with brackets?

I have bought a couple of laptops off Craigslist and they have worked out well. This is a good time to look as some are upgrading after Christmas and you can get one cheap. The ones I bought have been cleaned and do not have any password problems, so I feel they are legit. I just shop local so I meet the seller. You just need to watch a couple of times a day to get one.

I may out of the loop, but whats an SCT tuner?

Is it just going to be a music source?

Reminds me of a saying...."you can tune a guitar but can you tuna fish????"

Im not too trusting of craigslist for stuff. Just took a shot here to see if someone had one laying around. Looks like ill just wait until a new one pops up at good price. Right now new prices are around 250 for their lowest priced one. By the time you buy one on ebay, add the gigs, add the windows 7 or 8 your pretty much near the cost of a new one. I just need a basic one, where I can download my tunes for the Mustang. It requires windows 7 or 8. I tried it with XP and it was a real pain in the butt. It wont work with my MAC either.

Boot Camp and an OEM Windows disk should work on that Mac. Or buy a copy of Parallels or Fusion. Or try VirtualBox...that one is free.

If its an iMac...those are a bit bulky to try to carry out to the car seat and use. But if that Mac is a laptop it might work well for you to just buy a Windows 7 disk on ebay. They seem to be in the $50 to $90 range.

I have an ASUS laptop that is in good condition. Put a new motherboard in it about a year ago, haven't used it much since. If you are interested I will PM you some pictures and specs.

Why not go with an Android and run Torque with a Bluetooth connection to the OBDCII. The Torque app is a whole $4.50 and it allows "tuning". I just picked up an Android with a 7" screen Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM Radio and GPS along with other options for $108.00 and (it is also a phone if you want to use it as one). Small enough to use on the fly or dash mount for monitoring.
