It’s worth noting, that during the almost exact amount of time, the current administration couldn't build a functioning website!

Aint it the truth!! And it is amazing how quickly our country responded with all that armor once everyone realised that tyranny was upon us and our constitutional freedoms were at stake..

I think once they figure out how to set up a functional, user friendly website (Freebird could do it and probably for a lot less than 650 million) the next move should be a website set up so the American people can vote on house and senate bills, monitor how congress/senate are voting on these same bills, have a running blog so our Senators/Congressman can explain why they didnt vote the way the people did on a regular basis....

Kinda like a system by the people for the people...:backinmyday:

Not meaning to be picky and I'm certainly not belittling the immense contribution of the U.S. of A. in helping to win that war, but it was 6 years long not 3 1/2. That last number represents the number of years the U.S. was involved - officially anyway. There were U.S. citizens fighting with the allies not long after the war started in Sept. 1939 with the invasion of Poland and the generally accepted date for the end of the war is Sept. 1945, although various countries have set it somewhere between May and Sept. 1945 for their own reasons. Let's hope we never have to see the likes of that war again - especially with today's rather nasty weapons.

Now here's some neat trivia for you. Although the main "Axis" powers, Japan and Germany, surrendered in 1945, a Treaty of Peace was not signed with Japan until 1951 and with Germany, the Treaty of Peace was not signed till 1990!! I think this means that, in theory, we were still at war with those countries even though they had surrendered. Interesting, don't you think?

How come our Military folks have to undergo mandatory drug testing and the government officials dont? If they did it wouldnt be a suprise when one of them get busted for drugs like they guy from Fla here a couple weeks ago. Sligtly off subject I know, but it just struck me.

I think the unconditional surrender signed 9/2/1945 on the battleship Missouri pretty well took the place of a peace treaty with Japan. We completely whipped them and they have been friendly ever since as opposed to now days when we can't fight a real war with out the media creating a negative frenzy which causes the war to drag on and never really be settled.

COWPUC,

I heartly agree. Just think what a different country this would be if voting was more user friendly and we could vote on-line rather than having to inconveniently go to the polling place.

I understand the intent of the OP's post but as mentioned by Darthandy... WWII was well under way by the time the U.S.A. joined the Allies. It should also be mentioned that although the U.S.A. played a large role in many of the decisive battles in the Pacific and in Europe, they weren't the only countries involved in the battles nor the sole reason the Axis fell.

Even in the Korean war, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.... it was a coalition of forces that fought and died.

All of which was done while 60% of the 'working manpower' had been drafted.

Sorry I did not research all the facts before I posted. It was emailed to me, and I found it amusing. I will make sure I have all facts checked by the FOX news checkers first, before I post.

Canada started the war without a real army or navy. They finished it with the third largest navy in the world and one of the strongest armies. Canadians were the first to break through German defences on D day. Canadians broke the back of German defences at Vimy Ridge. After Vimy the Germans were retreating. Canadian ships provided most of the convoy escorts in the Atlantic. Canadians (and British and Americans) broke through the German defences in Italy. The British also invaded Africa. The Canadians and British also invaded Sicily. The Americans were strong in Europe but the Pacific is where they really shone. To recover from the attack in Hawaii the way they did was great. The Pacific theater was mostly American with help from Australians, New Zealanders and Canadians, not to mention natives. In short, no one country can claim victory, it was all fighting together that provided the victory.

Man ain't that the truth!!! And lots of those good ol ALLIES are still wonderful Allies/friends today, like "family" in more ways than one.. Being "family" = we can have our struggles between us (like brothers and sisters) BUT, mister bad guy:no-no-no:, at the sign of outside the family troubles we WILL drop our struggles and have each others backs!!! :322::bobby::mustache::bluesbrother::grandma::223::fingers-crossed-emo:backinmyday:
