KIC Posted December 17, 2013 #26 Posted December 17, 2013 Yea.... everything they said. And by the way...the only stupid question is any question my brother-in-law asks me....
Guest tx2sturgis Posted December 17, 2013 #27 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Brian you probably got 20 + yrs of changing bike tires so i wont shoot but i will say this thats the first bike tire i have changed in 25 yrs and the first was a front tire some25 yrs ago If I'm on the road, I just pay someone to put a new tire on. I have done it myself a handful of times on my Venture, and yeah...its an issue. The lift, all the tools involved, removal of bags and mufflers, removing the axle, brake caliper, then getting the wheel off and clear of the bike, breaking the bead, remounting the tire,...etc etc etc..time, effort. Of course a shop can do it much faster than I can. I'm convinced that $50 or $75 the typical shop charges is money well spent, if they do it right. Doing it yourself, at least you will know the hub has been serviced. When a mechanic at the typical shop does it, they dont bother with servicing the hub unless you are standing right there and ask him to do it. The Ural sidecar outfit is a different type of motorcycle, made to be very easy to work on in your own driveway. So tire changes are a lot easier. It even carries its own spare! pmelah Posted December 19, 2013 Author #28 Posted December 19, 2013 you are right and i gobbed the grease on the fingers of the hub taking it off the hub has tough it was stiff but putting it back on with the grease on it it slid in bounced back and off i knew then it was greased good put it back on again easier that time and slide the axel in befor this i could hear and feel a scraping noise from the hub after no scraping but it looked like it had not had any grease put on it in years it was so dried up
