Condor Posted December 13, 2013 #1 Posted December 13, 2013 So I bought my new2me Nissan Titan and the previous owner (bankruptcy) failed to supply me with a key to unlock the receiver hitch pin. It's a standard key lock. Has anyone ever drilled one of these things out before?? And how did that go for ya ??? I could take it over the to the local muffler shop and have it burned off, but the area is kinda tight and I didn't want take the chance of screwing up the paint... Any other suggestions??
Bert2006 Posted December 13, 2013 #2 Posted December 13, 2013 Could try to freeze it with a can of compressed air and then give it good blow with a hamer and chizel to see if it would break.

Bert2006 Posted December 13, 2013 #5 Posted December 13, 2013 Too bad its not Harley brand, it could fall of on its own.... Sorry, could not help myself...had to o there.....
Ion Posted December 13, 2013 #6 Posted December 13, 2013 I lost the key of the one I had on my jeep once. It was a great excuse to go to harbor freight and by a cheap reciprocating saw, I think it was around $20, $25. If you have enough room to fit the blade you will be good to go. Took less than a min to go through it. Good luck.
BratmanXj Posted December 13, 2013 #7 Posted December 13, 2013 I've torched and I've cut the locking hitch pins out before. When cutting go slow and use plenty of cutting oil.
djh3 Posted December 13, 2013 #9 Posted December 13, 2013 Saws all if you have good blades. I would put a couple layers of duct tape on the painted parts you want to save. Maybe a squert or 2 of WD 40 or simular while cutting to help it along. An angle grinder would be my second choice I think. Do you know anybode with a plasma cutter? They are suposed to be really somth and not at all like a gas wrench. Long way around would be find out what kind of lock it is and contact them with the code on the tumbler end. We use to get cars traded in and guys never had the keys to wheel locks, camper tops etc. Takes some time but the wheel lock company could set you up with a key. Camper tops lots of times a brigs and stratton lawnmower key would work, or some pad lock keys.
MikeWa Posted December 13, 2013 #11 Posted December 13, 2013 Some of those work with the car key. Mike
uncledj Posted December 13, 2013 #12 Posted December 13, 2013 My first thought would be a cut off tool (typically pneumatic) with a 3" abrasive wheel on it. If you're willing to take the time and want the least chance of damage, you can even do it with a dremel tool with about twenty cut off wheels. In tight spaces, I've used a dremel to cut roller bearings off of a 1" shaft. It takes a while, and you'll go through a lot of wheels, but it'll be easy to avoid damage, and it is effective.
