Condor Posted December 11, 2013 #1 Posted December 11, 2013 So I log onto the board this morning and what pops up in the ad banner??... an ad linking to the Super Brace website. And out of the kindness of their heart giving all the 1st Gen members 15% off the price of one of their braces at $143.95. That works out to around $122 bucks. Wow!! Such a deal!! What gets me a little ticked off is I've been having fork braces made for the supporting members of this site for $67.00 and that includes shipping for about 4-5 years now, and at that price barely covering my time and the money laid out up front. Why? For the good of this board and it's supporting members. I also did this with MAC mufflers and Odyssey battery's when that's all there was available....Again, laying out a bunch, and not making a penny. So where's the support?? I guess it really doesn't matter any more..... It's just very disappointing. I wonder what the future holds for this place??
bongobobny Posted December 11, 2013 #2 Posted December 11, 2013 Well Jack, it should make your braces even more desirable!! I know I love mine and thought it was/is an excellent product! Yes, unfortunately it does seem as everybody is in it for the money. Although I am a Capitalist at heart I also strongly believe in giving, expecting nothing in return. It warms my heart to know I've done some good for someone else without being selfish and having some kind of motive behind it. It is how God would like us to live our lives. I for one appreciate you Jack...
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted December 11, 2013 #3 Posted December 11, 2013 I care, I bought yours when I needed one and if I needed another I would buy yours again..... Do I need one for my 2nd generation? I do hear what you are saying. Most of us will support you first.
Black Owl Posted December 11, 2013 #4 Posted December 11, 2013 You are, in my opinion, absolutely right in your observations and comments. This site has slowly changed over the years since it's first inception. And not for the better in many ways. Maybe we have just grown too big and lost the "brotherhood" that we once had.
Stanman Posted December 11, 2013 #5 Posted December 11, 2013 Super Brace has seriously overpriced their product....
stanG Posted December 11, 2013 #6 Posted December 11, 2013 Agree 100%. I always try to get stuff from members when I need it. Bought stuff from skydoc with excellent service and product just as an example. Plus the purchase come with the knowledge and support of this site.
XV1100SE Posted December 11, 2013 #7 Posted December 11, 2013 Condor....I'd support you....if I had a 1st gen. As long as you have an ad on here, members should check the member vendors before they go elsewhere.
etcswjoe Posted December 11, 2013 #8 Posted December 11, 2013 To be honset with you I never pay attention to the banner ads plus I clicked on one once and my firewall blocked it.
Freebird Posted December 11, 2013 #9 Posted December 11, 2013 That ad has been here for a few weeks now and it has already been discussed. SuperBrace is one of the few companies that still make a product for the first gen Venture and should be applauded for still supporting the bikes that many here ride. They were the very first to offer the much needed fork brace for the Venture and have been doing so for many many years now. Yes, their price is higher than the alternative but they are also a business with employees to pay, overhead and etc. They offered to pay a very small fee and offer our members a discount and I thought it was a nice gesture on their part. I have never stated that anybody should buy from them instead of from Condor but there is an option. This is nothing that I haven't also done to myself. I am a huge fan of Diamond R Accessories. I was making and selling center stands for the RSV but Diamond R also offered one. Theirs was much more expensive than mine but had a nicer finish being chromed and etc. I did not feel cheated if somebody chose to purchase their product over mine and I did not feel that the membership here was not supporting me in that case. It is not about not supporting the member vendors. It is about giving the members options and not being afraid to let the marketplace work.
dingy Posted December 11, 2013 #10 Posted December 11, 2013 I have 2 of your braces & would possibly take another if you have one. Gary
KIC Posted December 11, 2013 #11 Posted December 11, 2013 When, and IF, I ever get my 87 on the road I will definitely buy one from you since the front brace on my 89 made a very BIG difference. I was so close to ordering my first one from you when I realized one of my 84 parts bikes had one on it.
dave_wells Posted December 11, 2013 #12 Posted December 11, 2013 I don't think it has anything to do with caring about members it is about choice Home depot or Lowes ? I would go to ACE up the block - Better service Looking at the Super Brace add as I type I have no use for one I would support a member/friend b4 anything else Members that have been around for awhile that is. Reasons are : Better service Reputation : Word of mouth is the best advertisement one could have sometimes price What I have heard all the above apply to you .. I would not worry about it let it go ...... I bought two items from Larry I was happy with both One item was cheaper elsewhere Larry would most likely do the right thing if there was a problem
CaptainJoe Posted December 11, 2013 #13 Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) +1 on the "I buy from members first"... Perhaps if there was a place for "member products" that all the members could look at to see exactly what, was available, from our members, would solve the issue... I just looked in classifieds and couldn't find Condors braces... Course I'm not the best navigator of this site , but I'm betting I'm not alone in that respect.. Keep it up Condor... ***EDIT*** just found VentureRider Merchandise... Perhaps we could have a VentureRider Members Merchandise... right below that? Edited December 11, 2013 by CaptainJoe
Barrycuda Posted December 11, 2013 #14 Posted December 11, 2013 +1 on buying from members first I have a windshield, diamond cut, utopia backrest, piece for my touring light bar and soon some more stuff from Larry. That said, I see recently a few members getting upset because of either the change in people, or members or the site in general. To me this is still a great site and its members are great. We all can't have it like it " used to be". Those who value specific values andnwaysnofndoing things will still be on here, I hope. The site is for our benefit, and we have many members with different wants, needs, locations and financial situations that always do not lineup with our own philosophies. Thats ok. Take and be part of what's useful for you and let go of the rest...
Snaggletooth Posted December 11, 2013 #15 Posted December 11, 2013 I saw the first notice about SuperBrace coming on board a while back and it made me chuckle. Can't see that it will be a huge hit on your sales myself Condor when folks Compare price, quality and function. Your brace meets all my standards and more. Still running mine and have recommended it to many others. I remember when you got fan mail from SuperBrace because "their" name got misused when your braces came out. I saw that as a plug in your favor if they were worried enough to see it as a threat to their business to start firing off letters. I think you will sell more a lot more braces here even with their banner. It ain't gonna hurt ya. Keep after it my friend. We are behind ya on the braces. I do agree its good to have choices. In these tight times its not had to make a good one. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.
djh3 Posted December 11, 2013 #16 Posted December 11, 2013 On specific venture parts I need I usually look here first. Couple of reasons. I figure to help support those that make the parts, someone to talk to if you have problems with said part. Customer service!!!!! If ya got problems they will help you out. Another reason is I figure if a guy made and designed the part for his bike it probably has many many miles of R&D completed.
Prairiehammer Posted December 11, 2013 #17 Posted December 11, 2013 I do! Jack, don't take the SuperBrace banner too seriously. If most members are like me, they will realize that the SuperBrace is over priced, always has been. So, that is why when I saw your brace offered here, I jumped on it...twice, now. I also have chosen to deal with Earl whenever I need something for the antiques. Shop Local, y'all!

Jack, I am a proud owner one of your superbraces on my 88 and there was one already installed on the 86 that I bought from Swifty. More than that, you have my great respect for all that you have done to make this a better forum. I think that members like you who contribute like you do deserve more recognition. I suspect many of the newer members are less aware of what members like you have contributed.
Brake Pad Posted December 11, 2013 #19 Posted December 11, 2013 I'm buying a set for my Wing, Unless you can make a set for my 2012 Wing?
uncledj Posted December 11, 2013 #20 Posted December 11, 2013 Like many others here, I have one of your braces on my 87, I also have one of the TCI upgrades from Dingy, although I've never installed it. I've also purchased from Skydoc, and plan on doing a clutch upgrade on my second gen with parts from him next Spring. Actually, I've never seen the banner ('puter musta' blocked it) I think most members would happily buy from other members first. Great prices, and the buyer has endless support after the purchase, and a fantastic resource to rely on from the many knowledgeable members on this site. It only makes sense to look here first. Thanks to all of you for all that you do. It's much appreciated. Merry Christmas to all !!!
Wizard765 Posted December 11, 2013 #21 Posted December 11, 2013 Jack: Do you have any braces left or are you going to be making any more? I'm actually in the process of restoring an 87 and would love to get a brace for it.. Have one of yours on my 84 and very happy with it Wayne
XV1100SE Posted December 12, 2013 #22 Posted December 12, 2013 I think the main advantage of this thread is that now a number of people who didn't know before know that Condor makes braces for 1st Gens. It has also made some newer members aware that there are member vendors. For those that don't know... click on Classifieds on the top bar and scroll down the window to "Member Vendors". Below that link are links to members selling their bikes, or parts. Condor - I don't see you listed under member vendors. Would be good if you posted your brace there. For those interested....Condor's ad is under 1st Gen parts - http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3849&title=fork-brace&cat=6 I think if a member makes/sells parts they should be under the Member Vendors. 1st/2nd Gen parts should be used parts or one off parts being sold. Makes it harder to find out who makes what if it is under the parts section. I hadn't noticed before that the drop down for a member shows "Visit Xxxxxx's homepage!". I usually check member vendors before buying things. If a member makes a part I'll buy it from them first. If there is a recommendation from a member I'll consider buying what is recommended. Then I'll look at the banners. Finally do a search on the Internet. SlowRollWV... don't see your list of parts under member vendors !
Rick Haywood Posted December 12, 2013 #23 Posted December 12, 2013 You seem to be upset over nothing in my opinion. You are upset over an advertisement and if I understand this correctly their price is $55 more for the same product and from what I have experienced from the members on this board most buy from other members first. You also are upset when you don't really know that people bought from super brace verses you. A monopoly doesn't work in any society. I find it hard to believe you are going to lose any sales to them if the member knows about your product. I for one didn't know you made them.
BradT Posted December 12, 2013 #24 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) I for one didn't know you made them. I would guess this may be his point....... The Popup ad does point the members to a higher priced item. If they are not aware of the alternatives a memeber could pay more for something and this site is the one that directed them too the higher priced option Brad Edited December 12, 2013 by BradT
