Picked up a couple of turn downs off ebay for my grandson Shane's 83 and one has a rubber sleeve in it and the other one doesn't. Does anyone have any old unusable muffler turn downs that still have a sleeve or any suggestions on making one?

Randy,

One of my sleeves rotted out & disintegrated. What I did was cut the other one in half & shared it. The only thing is that I needed to make sure that TWO springs on each side that hold them to the Markland rear light bar were new to make sure it had a snug fit.

Thanks Andy. We have not tried them on the bike yet and I was wondering where the springs hook. The bike has what I think may be the Markland light bar and that is why we wanted the turndowns. I have attached a couple of pictures that show the light bar.

Don't know if that is a Markland. The Marland I have is in the below photo. The 2 springs connect to holes in the bottom of the bar on each side. Hopefully someone else has that bar on the forum.

Thanks again Andy. I'm sure you are correct on this one not being a Markland. My bike had the same light bar as Shane's when I got it almost eighteen years ago and since it had other options that were Markland, I just thought it might be Markland.

I just jammed mine on tight and then put in 2 stainless steel screws to hold them in place, one on the bottom and one on the inside. Been 6 years now, no ill effects yet.

Randy,

I have a set of turn downs with the rubber with them. I can make a template and cut it out on some rubber and sent them to you if you would like. I am trying to sell the tips and want to keep the rubber inserts with them for their sale. I also noticed in the pic that there wasn't a tank cover on the bike. Do you need one of them or did y'all just take it off for the trip, I have 3 in the garage that I could send you one for the shipping...:2cents:

Hell for that price I could buy a sheet of rubber and make templates and sell them for $25 with free shipping

:sign20:

Thanks Squidley on the tank cover offer, but he has a good one. As far as the rubber sleeve, one has a good one so I may just use it as a template. I will just look around for some rubber that will take the heat.

Thanks guys,

As I look at the pictures of your bike Andy the light bar you have appears to be a Ventureline though the hitch is a Markland. Randy your light bar appears to be a Drag Specialties. Not at this point that it makes any difference. As for the springs drill a small hole on the backside of the mufflers and put a stainless steel sheet metal screw in there, much more reliable. As for the rubber I think you could cut one from an old wornout motorcycle tire.Maybe?

I was talking about the rubbers but I also have the turn downs as well. They are in good shape, just need some cleaning. The springs are still on them. If I were to ship the turn downs to you, I would ask a few dollars for shipping. They are kind of heavy. No charge for the items, just postage.

That is a great offer Jim, but I hate to take the insulators when someone else could use the turndowns. I was looking for turndowns because with the light bar, the mufflers need to be a little longer to look good and need turned down to get the exhaust away from the light bar.

I pulled the one insulator out and looked at it and it does not look like anything special. I have some rubber that may work, it is just a bit thicker.

Anyway, thanks for the offer and let me see what I can come up with before I mess up what you have.

No problem. I ditched the light bar so don't need the turn downs. If anyone needs them, I would be glad to give them away to them.

What kind of light bar did you have? Shane's light bar has about four of the panels the lights mount on missing and I would love to get more. I can get the lights with reflector/lens, but I need the part that goes from the top bar to the bottom bar. I will see if I can find a decent picture.

I have added a couple pictures from my bike that has the same light bar.

Can't help you there. I had a Markland and the lights are flush mounted. I have the complete light bar sitting outside with the trash to be hauled away. I did not like the weight of the thing and just did not like all the lights. My trunk has a light bar also and that is plenty enough lights for me. I guess I just prefer a leaner look.

Thanks Jim, just took a chance in asking what you had. You never can tell, someone may have one like mine they don't want anymore.

FYI- that light bar does not appear to be for a 1200...does look proper. It really did not fit the 1200 "lines". I have the 80's catalogue...that does not look right. Glad you took it off
