Went to my 76 yr old moms house yesterday to find her on the phone in front of her desktop with the screen scrolling as she had given remote access to a supposed microsoft software tech...

I ask the man with indian accent what was going on. he said there was a bug in my moms window 7 system. (recognized him as the one I hung up on the previous day)

I got his name number and hung up on him.

Then I Unplugged the computer

Called Microsoft and surprise... they never heard of the guy or phone no. Said it was a scam as they NEVER CALL YOU...

YOU HAVE TO CALL THEM!...

Long story short:

Agree to a one time charge of $105.99

Microsoft's Jennifer took remote control of moms desktop restarted in safe mode and uninstalled a pile of programs

Said I did the right thing as he would have changed the password in the computer and we would have had to pay a ransom to get back in or worse...

Also said computer was hacked on 11/15/2013 (probably how they got the info to call my mom)

Restarted computer again to insure programs weren't re-installed

Ran full MCafee scan and we're out of the woods....

Need to figure out who to contact on this as someone needs to go to jail...:bang head:

They are calling businesses and goverment offices too and most of them are cold calls or they have compromised an individual's or company's contacts. These guys must cover their tracks pretty good because this has been going around for awhile someone posted a warning about it several months ago. They have called me sevetal times and I usally wind up making the guy mad.

I had a similar call last week......told him I didn't own a computer and I had vision problems and could not see well enough to use one. His response " you are lying sir" (with heavy eastern accent).

Yup. Got a call both at the business and then the next day at the house. Same SCAM. There is a problem with the computer that they need to correct.

The guy calling the company could hardly speak English.... Kept asking him to repeat himself until he finally hung up.

Just hang up on them.

My daughter received the same call. She has been having some issues with her computer, but called me to confirm instead. She didn't fall for it, but was tempted.

My father (86) has been attacked with the FBI virus several times from legit looking emails. That is a Biotch to get rid of, but I finally figured out a way.

My wife got a similar call at home a year ago,,, but full American English.

Caller ID said "PAYPHONE". She only answered because that could be family(?).

Anyhow, the guy started the same thing, said he was Microsoft support and needed to walk her through settings.

When she said,,,, "So you guys are using pay phones now?" he hung up. LOL

That was odd,,, maybe a prison call out scam?

Loved the video... and how fitting ending up with "Did you say yammie?":rotf::rotfl:

Video reminded me of my dad. He used to see how long he could keep a salsmen on the phone when they called. Sort of a game to him as he had MS and was house bound.

I got the call. So I asked the caller to hold a second while I turned my computer on. Which I didn't do. I went back in a couple of minutes and asked him to continue to hold while my computer was still booting up. Must be the virus they were calling about making it slow. All in all I was able to keep the idiot on the line for over 40 minutes. He finally hung up when I started picking up the phone and asking "are you still there dummy, hold on just a little longer". Three times. It was kind of fun.

Don't worry, we get these idiots down her in Oz as well.

My usual ploy is to immediately tell them - in either French, German or Greek that I don't understand English and ask them if they speak whichever language I'm using at the time.

They're persistent little baskets, because they keep 'attacking' in their heavy Indian accented English. We usually start yelling over the top of each other and keep it up until the goose on the other end hangs up.

GAME OVER. I WIN!!

Years ago my dad was in his upper 70's, got a call from a telemarketer that started into his presentation. Dad waited about a minute and interrupted him by saying " Sorry to interupt you, but the neighbor lady is here and my wife is due home in five minutes....." He said it was just silent on the other end of the phone. I just about die when i think of that one. I can just picture him doing that, just plain awesome. I'm gonna use that one someday.

I just got a call from them tonight. He made the mistake of calling me while I was bored.....

I kept him on the phone for 45 minutes.

That was 45 minutes that he was not scaming some poor computer illiterate person.

I got one of these calls at 9:00am on a sunday. Said his name, (Indian,) so fast I couldn't understand. He was talking fast and I said, Mr. Patel, Mr. Patel, please slow down. He said my name isn't Patel. I said I though all you indians were named Patel. He got upset and was rattling of something and I said, Mr. Patel, Mr Patel, let me ask you a question. He said go ahead. I said do you have a red dot on your forehead. He hung up.
