TheCoffsKid Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 hi, Thought I'd jump into this conversation. I have purchased a pair of OEM Royal Star exhaust tips from Partzilla.com Attached are two photos; one of the end of the muffler and the other of the tip over the tube exiting from the muffler. All the reviews I have read indicate that to put these tips on a OEM muffler is more or less "plug 'n' play" As can be seen by photo 1 these is a plate labelled "A" that seems to have been pushed in then welded; the weld is above "B" I have used a vernier gauge and it seems the tip would fit into the muffler if the plate wasn't there. See photo 2 to see how far the tip needs to go in. The muffler is marked Yamaha 5JC-2 with E13 in both a rectangle and a circle. I am assuming this is a part original to the bike. I need some help from anyone who has had this situation. Should I remove the weld and then see how far I can push the plate into the muffler? Would I then drill the two holes in the plate and weld two nuts behind the plate for the bolts to locate to. Any help from anyone who has resolved a similar problem will be appreciated. Cheers,
crazygaucho Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I just was able to see your pic I don't a thing about our bikes I'm sure someone with more knowledge (won't be hard to find) will give you a better opinion but, those pipes don't look like the ones I have on my bike (05 RSTD). are you sure they are OEM? or they were replace for some after market ones? on my pipes I believe you can read the Yamaha name on the side keep researching. have a great day and ride on
Phoneman1981 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Hello: If I am correct? I think your pipes are actually Venture pipes and not RSTD pipes. You might be able to modify your pipes to accept the tips, but IMHO it would be simpler and easier to find stock RSTD pipes or other after market pipes that you like and then sell what you have. Just my two cents. Good luck. Keep us posted.
M61A1MECH Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 The mufflers from the Tour Deluxe that accept the tips have nut plates or clinch nuts installed in them, they should line up with the holes in the tips so you just insert the retaining screw thru the tip and into the nut plate or clinch nut and tighten them up. The Venture mufflers do not have the nut plates or clinch nuts.
TheCoffsKid Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 CrazyGaucho, On my pipes there is this Yamaha 5JC-2 with E13 Could you provide a photo of the end of the muffler on your bike so I can see if its the same as mine cheers,
TheCoffsKid Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 On the partzilla webite the partnumber is STR-10693-50-01 and shows 2 bolts attaching the tips to the inside of the muffler horizontally. The parts sent to me from partzilla with the same part number on the box have 2 pairs of 2 bolt holes which attach the tip to the muffler vertically. My problem with this option is that I will have to remove part "A" as shown in my attachment. cheers,
M61A1MECH Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 It is possible that the mufflers that were supplied with bikes shipping to OZ were different than those shipped to the US. If you have the factory mufflers that that are the same as what came on the US versions there would be no need to remove parts A or B to fit up the tips, they just slip in place and are fixed with the screws, also they are made so the tips can be rotated to turn down, turn out or turn up. It is also possible that a previous owner changed out the mufflers for Venture mufflers or the shop that built it originally put the wrong mufflers on the bike. As a side note, the tips are not installed at the Yamaha factory they are sent with the bike to be installed by the dealer in what ever position the buyer wants them. If you remove parts A & B I not certain that you will anything behind the rear baffle plate that is substantial enough to put a screw into and have it hold those tips for very long, if memory serves those tips are fairly heavy.
TheCoffsKid Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 (edited) Hi, Yes it looks like they are not the same as the US models; whether the bike came like that or they were swapped out, I don't know. Previous owner said that he hadn't changed anything on the bike. I would have to drill 2 holes in the muffler and somehow fix the nuts inside the new tips then bolt it up; might look a bit crappy as either way one bolt head would be visible; might look for some dress up titanium ones. An alternative might be some muffler glue, run the moter to make it go off, then drill the holes, tap a thread then bolts in.....hmmmmmm Thanks for the reply. Cheers, Edited November 30, 2013 by TheCoffsKid more stuff
djh3 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I was baffled at the photes being in excell. I aint never seen that before.
k9cottage Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 if you go down the comments on this link you can see a venture muffler that has been opened up to show what is inside http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41418&highlight=stock+pipes you can see if you want to cut the plate out.
M61A1MECH Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Do all the time at work, photo editing and commenting on photos in Excel is much easier that in Word.
