GolfVenture Posted November 27, 2013 #1 Posted November 27, 2013 I have an older 93 GMC Sonoma truck. It has 140K miles. In the last month the stock AM/FM/Cassette radio when I first start it up in the morning or when I start it up to go home from work after 8 hours of sitting. The Radio only produces static. I try different channels both AM/FM, but not the cassette (I will try the cassette tomorrow). About 10 to 20 minutes later the radio starts to squeek and soon I can tell that the sound gets better and better and soon it sounds really good. Sometimes the static would go away all of a sudden with good sound. Besides replacing the radio anyone have a suggestion?
Karaboo Posted November 27, 2013 #2 Posted November 27, 2013 I suggest checking the connections for the antenna.
icebrrg3rd Posted November 27, 2013 #3 Posted November 27, 2013 The vacuum tubes need to warm up? Anything other than a bad connection somewhere, a replacement radio would most likely be the easiest (and cheapest) fix. -Andrew
Hazenson Posted November 27, 2013 #4 Posted November 27, 2013 Spill another coffee down the heater vent, its low on caffiene and takes longer to get going in the morning. Actually good chance your radio is going south on ya, may wanna start looking for a replacement
MiCarl Posted November 27, 2013 #5 Posted November 27, 2013 If you do replace your radio check out Crutchfield You put in your vehicle info and they present all the units that will fit. Then when you select one they list all the accessories you need to put it in, often free unless you're on a real cheap radio. They include very good detailed instructions. You'll end up with a better system than GMC will sell you for way less money.
