Keep that "white stuff" up your way. Rumor has it we might get it later this afternoon. And when/if we do a 1/4" shuts down the cities from Dallas, Waco, Austin to San Antonio. Ya'll in the panhandle are like in a whole other country

tx2sturgis, Please keep your dog-gone snow to yourself.

I live in Minnesota and you can have all the snow you want, just don't share it with anyone. :rotf::rotf::rotf:

Enjoy the white stuff! :stickpoke:

It's being snowing off and on here since yesterday morning. 40 car pile-up on the major highway just south of my place yesterday morning. No one killed, one serious condition and any other injuries were just minor. Lucky!

Does look nice off my front porch, snow falling hits the Christmas lights melts, then freezes right away and forms icicles on the lights......:snow2:

Tell em the Texas boys are riding in the snow and by golly you are jealous!

Hint: The Urals are the bikes with the sidecars. :stickpoke:

Gotta love it! :cool10:

Isnt your Ural 2 wheel drive? Had a few cars with posi-trac in em, lots of 3 wheelers and quads and they LOVED to do donuts - does the Ural also have this tendency or do you have to force it into a slide??

Looks like your putting that puppy to the test for durability,, how is it holding up so far, how many miles on it now?? Would you trust it on a cross country, two tracking, ghost towning trip?

Enjoy your snow buddy,, if you need anymore let me know :rotf:

Yep, 2WD. Goes almost anywhere you want it to. Dirt roads, loose gravel, sand, mud, snow, and oh yeah. Pavement! It's got reverse so if you reach a really soupy mess, or a steep drop-off, you can back the thing up. Comes in handy ALL the time even around town.

I can do donuts on anything thats loose...but its on my command, not the bike's.

Getting close to 7000 kilometers...about 4200 miles or so, give or take.

Still runs great. Would I take it cross country? No...I have a touring bike for that. Some people have ridden them across the USA, or to Alaska, or across Australia. Even to the Arctic Circle in the dead of winter. Adventure touring, its called. I'll pass.

This bike for me fulfills a different niche. Its for around town fun and utility. Way more fun than ANY motorcycle I have ever ridden.

The Venture, of course, is faster, smoother, more comfortable, more stable, and very reliable. And I enjoy all motorcycles immensely. But the Venture is more like a 2 wheeled truck. It does what it needs to do, but doesnt really make you smile much.

The Ural is a different beast. Not smooth, not really comfy, you know, not barcolounger comfy like a touring bike. Certainly not fast.

But it doesnt have to be. Its not trying to be a touring bike...or even a cruiser. Its just a lot of fun and will haul a shopping cart full of groceries and such, or three 5 gallon pails of paint and 2 bags of cement. Or a window airconditioner. Or 10 2x4's. Or a bag of golf clubs, or a couple of rifles or shotguns and all the ammo for a day at the range. Even on a snowy road, with ice in places. And even carry a decent sized cooler and your wife/girlfriend, her kid, and the dog, to the park.

Its not for everyone, and I wouldn't want them to be.

But if you want a new way to have fun on a street legal 'ATV'...the Ural is worth a look-see.

Some owners are using them for hunting...they go in the woods, and then out on the main roads...no trailer needed:

I was an AVID deer hunter, both bow and gun, when younger and used my little Honda CT90 to tow many deer out of the woods (still got it in the basement),, I gotta say Brian - I love the pic of the guy with the bucks head stickin up in the side hack :cool10:

That Ural looks like hoot and very universal!! Thanks for posting!

Hope all is well with you and enjoy.

Brian,

I appreciate the majority of my North Texas brothers and sisters, but you can keep that CRAP up there! I moved just about as far south as I could to get away from it. So enjoy it UP there ok!

We've been in an extreme drought for about 3 years now...we will take it anyway we can get it. I was raised in this area of Texas (where YES we get snow every winter) and even lived in Wyoming for a while as a teenager...it aint killed me yet! I remember tubing and sledding in the snow as a kid.

Now that I dont have to sit inside when it snows, avoiding motorcycling...I kinda like this stuff again. :happy34:

It'd definitely be an ADVENTURE if you TOURED on a Ural. Those pics bring back the good 'ol days of dirt bikes and little sense. Oh, and you can keep that stuff that's stuck to the mirror too, had enuf of THAT stuff in '09! Just started sleeting here, justt supposed to get a "dusting". I may get to find out how well that Nissan NV2500 sitting outside does donuts.

Love your pics and attitude Brian. Here in Toronto, we are close to a snow belt and as the Tooch posted, we had a bunch of snow not far from here. Our roads here in Toronto are clear today and I considered a quick ride but up here, they cover the roads with salt every time it snows. I've learned from experience that the road salt is real hard on bikes unless you can wash them down after a run.
