iPod

I just bought a 2013 Yamaha Venture S and expect to receive my iPod Touch any day now. It seems that I will be left to my own initiative and capabilities to try and connect this to my stereo system on the bike. And that is why I joined this Forum.

 

With my new iPod Touch in my hand, what do I need, and how do I connect this to the stereo system on my Venture? I have noted that it can just be plugged into the single pin receiver beside my cassette player. But how do I them close the door to the cassette player?

 

I will soon be going inside the fairing to setup my GPS connections. Is there a connection in there for the Ipod? Seems odd that Yamaha would give new owners a free iPod and then no information or cables to connect it to the bike. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on iSimple or other stuff so can anyone help me?

When you split the fairing you can put a splitter on the connection that runs to the tape deck and route a cord out pretty much wherever you want. Splitter, cord, electric tape is all thats needed if memory serves me. Can be done for way under $20. I'm sure that other memebers will have links posted by the time I get back on computer later tonight.

Sounds like I should buy a three outlet headphone adaptor when I buy it for my GPS and then, both the GPS and the iPod will connect to it. Right?

I believe your year comes with the iSimple setup. Mine's a 2006 & didn't come with it, but, check your saddlebags. The connection may be in one of them. Someone else may chime in with more knowledge.

If its the factory set up I-simple it should plug in to a cable in the left saddlebag (as your sitting on bike). The older bikes had a CD player in there. The Ipod deal replaced that. Did it come with a cable about oh say 2.5 ft long? Maybe 5-6 pins in it? If so it will have to plug in under the seat. If not then your bike should have the cable already installed in the saddle bag. Here is link to a discussion about it. I would think is pretty much a plug and play deal. I mean after all they got the dealers doing it.

There is a connector there that has eleven flat pins in it. Would that be the iSimple connection device?

The ipod and iphone connector is wide but I cannot count the pins. More like teeth is what I see.

I have a 2013. They gave me the ipod kit with the bike and I installed it. Everything goes in the left saddlebag. The kit consists of an iSimple module, two cables (one from the existing cable to the module and one from the module to the iPod), some wire holders, alchol pads, two sided tape and a warning label. The iPod fits in a little pouch in the saddlebag and is controlled from the audio controls on the left side of the handlebar.

If the connector in the saddlebag is a round 5 (?) pin connector then that is the c-bus connector for a cd changer. The iSimple device is a square black box that would be mounted towards the rear of the saddlebag on the side by the tire. A cable runs from the c-bus connector to the iSimple box. The cable you describe is what connects to the iPod/iPhone and connects to the iSimple box. Normally the cable is routed to the mesh pouch inside the saddlebag so you can put the iPod in that pouch.

 

If you are getting a Garmin gps (Zumo is waterproof but costs around $600+) then get the Buddy Rich cable. You put the gps mount on the handlebar and using the cable from the mount to the Buddy Rich cable and tie into the bike audio. Bluetooth from your phone to the gps and you can make/receive phone calls.

I hope it comes with the i-simple. I saw the other link where it costs $225, yikes you could buy a bluetooth headset for that price.

 

Anyway, saw your post. Just so happens I have my fairing split, so I took a few pictures for ya. Sorry about the pink tint (should be white) guess my camera didn't like the cold, or maybe it's the 12 florescent shop lights I have hanging from the ceiling.

 

I have a 3 compartment windshield bag. I keep my iPod in the far right.

The blue Velcro wire tie is holding the splitter. The black wire comes from back of tapedeck. The white wire is the one I installed and goes to the top of my gas tank.

I just followed the audio cable and fed the wire out the same notch in the gas tank cover thing.

That windshield bag looks like a handy thing to have. Hopefully my iPod will arrive this coming week and I can get started on connecting it. I have until April to do this because of this %$@#& Canadian winter. Three more years and I'll be using that Florida condo I invested in. Can't wait!!
