bjstone Posted November 18, 2013 #1 Posted November 18, 2013 I didn't find what I needed when I searched so, I thought I hope someone can help me. I want to replace my 08 stock rstd grips with kurakyan, or arlen ness. Do I need to retain the stock end weights, and if so will these grips allow me to? thanks in advance.
TheKid Posted November 18, 2013 #2 Posted November 18, 2013 You don't have to keep the stock end weights if you don't want to. It may cause some vibration in the handlebars if removed or may not. I know Kuryakin and Baron have bolt on end weights now for the iso grips. I don't know anything about arlen's grips.
Bert2006 Posted November 18, 2013 #3 Posted November 18, 2013 Just replaced mine last week with ISO's and used the Kuryakin end weights. Stock ones are about 3 times heavier that the Kuryakin ones. Did not notice any vibration issues but larger ISO grips made the numbness in the hands go away. Hope this helps....
BigLenny Posted November 18, 2013 #4 Posted November 18, 2013 I have thought about replacing my grips with after market, but i always use the end weights as a place to rest my hand so the cruise can move the throttle back and forth. Am I thinking right there. Doesn't the the throttle grip move as the cruise adjusts?

I replaced the stock grips on my '05 RSTD with the Kuryakyn ISO's but haven't added any end weights. I haven't noticed any vibration without them, and otherwise love the grips.

bjstone Posted November 19, 2013 Author #7 Posted November 19, 2013 thanks all for the help. I think I'll see if I can modify the kurakyan grips to retain the stock end weights. I'll let you know how it works. thanks again
Phoneman1981 Posted November 19, 2013 #8 Posted November 19, 2013 Hello: Rather than install new grips, I installed a set of grip puppies $15, over my stock RSTD grips. The larger diameter is really nice. I too enjoy placing my right hand out on the factory end weight when the cruise is on. But found it a bit short, so I had a local machine shop custom make me a 1.5 inch spacer that now allows my entire hand to be off of the rotating grip when the cruise is on. It also gives me a little more pull back for comfort.
