Maaak39 Posted November 15, 2013 #1 Posted November 15, 2013 Hello all I was warming up my bike a while back when it died. as I tried to restart it it just went dead. No lights no ignition no power nothing. I am pretty sure I checked all the fuses I have power past the battery. Don't know what else to check any Ideas It is a 2005 RSTD Thanks Mark
GeorgeS Posted November 15, 2013 #2 Posted November 15, 2013 Might be the On/ Off contacts in the Ignition Switch. A common problem on these bikes. Did you check the RED Switch on handle bar. ?? Is is On, or is it OFF ??? We have all done this from time to time. Did you check for Loose connections on the battery. Did you Check the " Main Fuse " located left Side cover near the fuel pump !! Check battery voltage with voltmeter, but I don't think thats your problem . List what you find.
Flyinfool Posted November 15, 2013 #3 Posted November 15, 2013 Check ignition switch, I know that is a problem area on a RSV.
Maaak39 Posted November 16, 2013 Author #4 Posted November 16, 2013 yes I checked the power switch on the handlebars, battery has juice, checked main fuse and ignition fuse and any others behind the cowlings & cover plates have been trying to bypass the switch still nothing. going to recheck everything again tomorrow
rowdy7 Posted November 16, 2013 #5 Posted November 16, 2013 I agree with Jeff. Go to VR Tech--2nd gen--electrical problems and read Carbon One's post on ignition switch bypass. Good luck. Jim
RandyR Posted November 16, 2013 #6 Posted November 16, 2013 sounds like the symptoms I had when the battery connections were loose. check the easy things first.
Maaak39 Posted November 18, 2013 Author #7 Posted November 18, 2013 Battery connections good, Battery good, bypass ign switch no help. Been checking switches and relays for continuity but I am having trouble locating the starting circuit cutoff relay. Anybody know where this is? Thanks for the suggestions
GeorgeS Posted November 18, 2013 #8 Posted November 18, 2013 Have you found the " Main Fuse " ???? Left side, Aft of the Fuel Pump Cover. Pull Passenger foot board Pull the Plastic Cover under the passenger foot board. Under that space you will find the " Main 30 Amp " fuse holder, and Starter Relay
