no matter what battery you buy new. You MUST charge the battery before use. These Venture size batteries state 10 hours on a 2 amp charger. I have an AGM YUASA. Just got it

Did you get one of the AGM's made in China ???

I made that mistake for battery for the CX-500. Only lasted about 10 Month.

Replaced with a DEKA , AGM.

Actually? Aren't most of the core components made in China?

BUT - I just replaced my AGM that lasted only 10 months also. RATS!

I just replaced it with an AC Delco AGM (made in China?). Some of the new AGM's even have as little as a 30 day warranty. What the heck?

BTW - I have an AGM now that charges fine - reads 14+ volts, but gives the cranking current of a D-Cell battery. Free for pickup? Hahaha

The worst of it was explaining to my wife that the wonderful AGM battery bought last year died in less than a year & I had to buy another one. That was a difficult conversation. :95:

The DEKA line is made right here in the USA in Pennsylvania. 1 year service warranty. If if fails in the first year from a defect they simply replace it.

Oh darn

- just went out to look at the bad battery in the shed

- my battery that died was one of those

"East Penn Manufacturing" batteries.

Made in America - darn it! Bought in March of 2013. Darn you E.P.M.

I have no luck period.

Damn - everyone else has great luck & mine gave me the worst performance of any battery I've owned in the last 10 years.

ARGH!

I guess even Deka has a bad batch occasionally. My original comparison was with an Autozone unit I needed to buy in a pinch. After their 3 month warranty expired it became a big problem. The funny thing is the Deka is just literally, just a few bucks more!

BTW I forgot to disconnect my alarm for the week (an instant killer for the Autozone unit) and the Deka STILL cranked the Venture like the day it arrived. Real happy with it!

BTW Earl, can you get Deka batteries for other bikes? When my CB750 is due to get a replacement, I'd happily like to deal with you on that too.

If Earl can't help check Bohannon battery web site. They are excellent to work with. They list all batteries and fitment fir bikes

When I need a battery, I go to the closest Walmart. If it doesn't have a hole for the probe (some do, some don't) I drill a 3/8" hole in one of the center cells and RTV the probe in. Been doing it for years. Their batteries are cheep and if I have to buy another one in three or four years, so what.

Plus One. That is where I bought mine several years ago and they are excellent people.

my last AGM lasted 10+ years cost less than $100. It was a Westco. I think that overall is cheaper than a Walmart battery every 4 years

Walmart batteries are good. I needed to buy one on the spot when my pickup truck's battery gave out in their parking lot.

BUT

if I can plan a purchase for anything for my Gen1 I like to deal with vendors who are part of this forum.

You can't beat the customer service of a brother biker & supporting them may ensure they stay in business to help you in the future!
