TheCoffsKid Posted November 10, 2013 #1 Posted November 10, 2013 Hi, I was looking at the crash bars on my 2006 RSTD and they don't seem to offer much protection for the rider in the event that the bike ends up on its side. Has anyone any experience with bars that extend out further; both front and rear. I have seen the Lindby Custom Front Linbar on the web. Any assistance much appreciated. Cheers,

slowrollwv Posted November 10, 2013 #3 Posted November 10, 2013 I am not sure about changing the bars, there is a lot of stuff mounted to them under the fairings. If they are braced to the floorboards they do a good job at protecting the bike.
darthandy Posted November 10, 2013 #4 Posted November 10, 2013 Those bars (As are most such bars) are meant to reduce or prevent cosmetic damage to the bike should it fall over when stopped or at parking lot speeds. They really aren't there to protect the rider as most of them really aren't strong enough or well braced enough to give much crash protection (Which is why you'll never see them called "crash bars" by the manufacturers!). Those that are longer could conceivably bend back in a crash and trap the rider's legs and worsen any damage. That said, those on the Ventures and the RSTD's can be strengthened so that they don't bend back so easily in the event of a low speed tip over (Don't ask how I know!!). TheCoffsKid Posted November 10, 2013 Author #5 Posted November 10, 2013 Thanks to everyone. The light in this particular tunnel is now considerably brighter. Cheers,
