crandalls6 Posted November 7, 2013 #1 Posted November 7, 2013 Hello, I have an 89 1300 that has sat 8 years, need to pull the carbs and clean them. I loosened the clamps, but carbs won't come loose. my question is, are they just tight, or am I missing something. airbox is out, I removed everything to gain access to them Thanks, Thomas
Venturous Randy Posted November 7, 2013 #2 Posted November 7, 2013 These carbs can sometimes be pretty difficult to pop out of the boots. If my memory serves me, I just use a long screw driver and find something to pry on. They can also be difficult to put back in the boots. RandyA
MiCarl Posted November 7, 2013 #3 Posted November 7, 2013 With old rubber and time they can really hold on. Be careful where/how hard you pry - you don't want to break a carburetor body. On reinstall lubricate the boots with a bit of soapy water or silicone lube. If the boots are really stiff, you might consider new ones.
RedRider Posted November 7, 2013 #4 Posted November 7, 2013 Mechanics pics. Use the one with the right angle tip to run around the inside of the boot. Then pry out with a screwdriver. Use the right angle pic when putting them back on also. You have to make sure they don't fold down when putting the carbs back on. Good luck. RR
Condor Posted November 7, 2013 #5 Posted November 7, 2013 They all seem to be a little inherently stubborn. I use the handle of a wooden handled hammer to get in there and pry up a bit. Also take them out the left side, and you'll be able to take the throttle cables off after wards and it's out a lot easier...
crandalls6 Posted November 10, 2013 Author #7 Posted November 10, 2013 Thank you for all the input, I sprayed them down with WD40 used a dental pic worked it in, waited a couple days and they came out no problems. now time to clean. Thanks again. Thomas
