Bob Myers Posted November 6, 2013 #1 Posted November 6, 2013 Wife had told me back in the summer she wanted a trike, we kicked the idea around and looked at LOTS of trikes, and their enormous price tags. We almost bought a Spyder but the $32k sticker helped me argue that idea down. So any way I'm cruising Craigslist and i find a fantastic looking bike. We make arrangements to go see it, roughly 65 miles from home. Put Tina in the passenger seat and me in the driver seat and away we went for a test ride. Now up to this point I had never even sat on a bike with a sidecar but this Honda begged me to sit down and drive off, We will make out final decision tomorrow but I'm leaning towards writing the man a check at daybreak for it. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i301/Bob_Myers/th_00V0V_dCZuz3hDQI9_600x450.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i301/Bob_Myers/th_GW-sidecar.jpg
Guest tx2sturgis Posted November 6, 2013 #2 Posted November 6, 2013 I've never driven one of those, but I really like my Ural sidecar rig. When you learn to 'fly the chair', post some video!
MJ44 Posted November 6, 2013 #3 Posted November 6, 2013 Life is short. Go for it! Practice waving, too. Everyone waves and:thumbsup2: when you drive a sidecar.
mini-muffin Posted November 6, 2013 #4 Posted November 6, 2013 Looks really nice. Do you get the trailer too? If the price is right I'd go for it. Plus I hope you don't mean you would leave us if you get it. Lots here don't have ventures anymore as well. Margaret
Brake Pad Posted November 6, 2013 #6 Posted November 6, 2013 With a Rig like that, you will not have any reason why you can't make it to the IR in 2014.
bill in mn Posted November 6, 2013 #7 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Got to love those Wings. That is a very nice set up. I have looked at the wings for sometime and the two things keep calling me are the fuel injection and reverse. We just got 3" of the white stuff last night and this fall the bride was on my friends Goldwing with his heated stuff on and now thinks the wing is the only bike with the heated option. I haven't told her different, just a ace in the hole. Edited November 6, 2013 by bill in mn
bongobobny Posted November 6, 2013 #8 Posted November 6, 2013 Well, seeing as you are a 1st Gen rider the riding position of the wing will be familiar to you, so go for it if you like it! It ain't what you ride, it's that you DO ride! (Don't let Freebird know I said that, he ain't completely off the hook yet for being a traitor...)

And the reliability history of a GW is of course very solid. However, if you don't buy it, you should now that $32K for a Spyder is way high. I was at the local Can Am dealer here just last week and they have two different brand new Spyder RT Limited versions loaded to the gills with all the chrome and custom luggage on sale for $22,500.00. Just letting you know. But, judging by the excitement in your post, I bet by the time you see this, you will have already written a check for the GW. LOL. Congrats if you have.

I really hadn't put the two thoughts together but you are right, it did in a lot of aspects remind me of the 87 Venture for layout and position.

Were those Spyder RT Limiteds 2014 models (with the 1300cc triple)?

Must be if it has no reverse. The Aspencades did have reverse in those years. My 94 was an Aspy and had reverse. Nice rig there. Go for it, you'll love it. Joe
BigLenny Posted November 7, 2013 #13 Posted November 7, 2013 Were those Spyder RT Limiteds 2014 models (with the 1300cc triple)? No. They were the 2013 998cc ones. That was one of the main reasons I didn't bite, because I'm 6'6" and 300 lbs, and even though my wife is only 5'2" and 130 lbs, I wasn't sure that it would hold up over time. They would be perfect for average sized folks though. They were beautiful. I might be taking a serious gander at the 1300's though.

You know, i'm not even sure it had cruise. Wife is now back pedalling, trying to tell me "wait and see what else comes a long". She wants a bigger car, that Champ is mighty narrow.
Bob Myers Posted November 11, 2013 Author #15 Posted November 11, 2013 Joe, it is an Interstate model, no reverse, no electronic cruise either. But, it does have one thing that yours didn't,, my name on the title!!

bill in mn Posted November 11, 2013 #18 Posted November 11, 2013 Wow! that's a nice looking ride . You will Enjoy that for many years.
Bob Myers Posted November 11, 2013 Author #19 Posted November 11, 2013 Had not realized that Kevin but it sure does, even the paint scheme is close, just different colors
SapperMedic Posted November 12, 2013 #21 Posted November 12, 2013 Very Nice, We had someone with a side car at the Leaky Tx rally last year, don't remember who it was but if I remember right, he had his mother-in-law in the side car.
djh3 Posted November 12, 2013 #22 Posted November 12, 2013 Bob so you now have the GW the Venture and the Kawa 800? You going for the group rate insurance? Nice looking rig there. Went for a ride Sun with the sort of local dealer tha handles Victory's. Damn now I'm struggling with that nucance again. Grrrr.

Went for a ride Sun with the sort of local dealer tha handles Victory's. Damn now I'm struggling with that nucance again. Grrrr. I'll never part with my Vulcan 800A, wife says hers cannot be bought or traded for either. The Yamaha has a sordid history that I suspect will never be straightened out. Very long story that some have heard, in short it was left to me as a friends dying wish, his widow won't give up the title. Unknown why, just won't. Wish was verbal in front of and to several witness' but still no legal way to force her hand. I found a Victory side car rig too, want the link for it?
FreezyRider Posted November 12, 2013 #24 Posted November 12, 2013 Congratulatons, Bob! That is a great looking rig, I'm sure you'll love it! You'll be able to haul whatever you want with all that space!
Bob Myers Posted November 12, 2013 Author #25 Posted November 12, 2013 Thanks for kind words, I wish it had been a Yamaha product but I'll give the wing a go, there are millions of them around, if they weren't dependable there would be a lot less of them. Now we can do a few of the trips in comfort that we wanted to take, without the worry of having enough room or protection. Tina didn't like the Yamaha of recent, she had determined I wasn't strong enough to hold all three of us up any longer, although I had not dropped it in over 12 years. I don't feel that was 100% my fault, it was an off camber stop/right turn, bike quit running after I started taking off, it sputtered and coughed and stopped, with us already leaning over for the right turn,,, the rest is history. I did manage to hold it off the ground while she got off, and then pulled it back up while still astride it. Adrenaline is a cool drug. I want to go around the great lakes for first trip, then later I want to go to Gettysburg and Lancaster County, up to Catskill Mtn.
