I've had my '99 RVS for a few thousand miles now and realize I NEED to change out the handlebars for a better wrist position. The "outward" turn/twist of the hand to grab the stock controls causes pain after only a short time of riding. On my last few cruisers (Road King, V-Star 1100) I was able to put mini-apes on that put my knuckles facing directly forward without putting the controls to tall.

I've read some recommendations for the Flanders 'Road Glide Style' bars but they appear to add height and not change the wrist angle. I know the bike uses 1" bars and there are plenty of options out there, but looking to see if anyone has experience or photos to show any other model handlebar mounted on a Venture.

Thanks

I just loosened the clamp on the brake and clutch levers and rotated it till the levers are strait out toward the front of bike, that way your wrist are flat and easier to pull the levers. try that first.

I've already messed around with stock bars rotating the mount and the controls. What I am looking for is a handlebar that has "less pullback" or rotation to the controls. Where my knuckles would face directly forward rather than outward.

On my Road King I had Wild1 Chubby 8" apes that were only slightly higher than the current height of the stock RSV bars, but the bars did not angle back as sharply at the grips. My wrist was straight from my arm through my fingers. The inside of my wrist is where I get pain, due to the pullback in the stock bars.

Has anyone put something other than RSV, RSTD, or the Flanders Glide Bar on their bike?

Edit: I'm 6'3" 250 LB. Seating position is fine, just looking for something where my elbows aren't tucked into my rib cage and my hands are straight out in front of me.

I think the big problem with putting a rams horn type bar on there is that the hydraulic brake and clutch control reserves are really going to be standing on ends and may effect performance. If they were cabled it would be a different story.... ?? Maybe....?

I have a similar problem but as parts etc. are hard to get over here ,I am considering taking my bars off and then getting them altered by having the respective bends in them slightly altered (re bent) in order to help my hand position to line up better and be more comfortable for me.

Does any one have thoughts about this.

Cheers Winston 66

Ps. my ride is a 1996 XVZ Royal Star

There have been several threads in days past about people using non-stock bars on the RSV.

Hopefully those who have tried other bars are still around and will jump in.

I use the cruise control a lot on my bike and just rest the open hands on the controls most of the time.

If one is determined to have/install longer/higher bars, then one is prepared to invest time/money into making it work. The electrical cable reserve on the RSV is OK-ish, the throttle cables come second and the clutch/brake hoses last in leeway.

So, if it were me, I'd just get longer hoses and that would be that. Were I to be worried about hydraulic system performance, I'd switch to steel braided hoses. Were I to be really really obsessed about performance, I'd run pipes from the new locations of the master cylinders up to wherever the old size hoses would get to. It should be fairly easy to build such pipes from similar car ones I could get from a scrapyard.

I reckon most people that want to install longer/higher bars don't want the hassle, so steel braided lines may be just enough.

Just my 2 cents,

@Dexter

You can look at the 05-present tads and see if they are more of what you may need, they are a little wider and not as bent in the up and out of venture bars. There are those who changed theirs out and be got for little. The older 96-01 royal stars has bars not as bent and steeped out gas venture bars. That's one great thing about the meet and eats we have as you can see several different set ups on others bikes without doing all the diff eat setups before we figure out what good for yes.:fingers-crossed-emo

Can anyone give me a part number or a lead on a Tour Deluxe bar?

Do stock cables and hoses fit with the Tour Deluxe bar?

I already have RS Warrior brakes to put on so swapping the hoses are on my winter list.

I have no problems putting in the money to get where I want, but would rather do it in the least amount of steps! That's why I'm asking for the advice.

Ok, why can I not navigate an OEM parts catalog. Does anyone have the part number for the Tour Deluxe Bars?

Is there a difference in the Tour Deluxe Bars and the older ('96-'98) Tour Classic Bars?

I think these are the Yamaha parts numbers

You should be able to find what you need at these online sources. :080402gudl_prv:

I haven't compared an older TD side by side with a newer RSTD to know if they are exactly the same or not. Maybe someone else has. Its a slightly different part number.
